Overview
As part of Microsoft Azure, the Azure Networking team designs and builds the network infrastructure that powers hundreds of thousands of servers in datacenters around the globe, providing network infrastructure services for Azure, Bing, Artificial Intelligence (AI) workload and other Microsoft cloud services.
We are looking for a Senior Cloud Network Engineer to design the next generation metro area network to support the amazing growth of AI.

Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 4+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation.
- OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation.
- OR Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- OR Equivalent experience.
- 4+ years technical experience in network design for Data Center network or Metro/Wide Area Network.
- 4+ years' experience in different networking technologies: network device hardware architecture, Application-specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC), optical technologies.
- 4+ years' experience on Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and different routing protocols: Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), Intermediate System to Intermediate System (ISIS), Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), Segment Routing.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 8+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation.
- OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 6+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation.
- OR Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation.
- OR Equivalent experience.
- 3+ years' experience on large scale data mining and analysis.
- Familiarity/experience with any network device operating systems (Sonic, Arista, Cisco, Juniper.)
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or Juniper Networks Certified Internet Professional (JNCIP) certification.
Cloud Network Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

Responsibilities
- Drive the design creation for metro area network for AI.
- Execute proof of concept and pilot for new network design.
- Work with different tooling teams to codify new network design for operation readiness.
- Participate in “DevOps on call rotation” to troubleshoot and resolve production issues which serves a feedback loop to improve design.
- You lead the design, network/code, and security reviews across teams to identify risks and prevent classes of bugs prior to production release.
- Influence telemetry analytics designs to better identify patterns that reveal errors. You troubleshoot and repair complex live site issues by applying expertise in physical network components.
- Develop automated testing and validation procedures for network devices to drive solutions between internal teams and external vendors.
- Demonstrate knowledge of data in practice (i.e., know what data is needed, how to find new or missing data, and how to describe the impact of defects on customers).
- Contribute to knowledge base development and updates for data center or network site technicians on how to repair and replace existing network hardware.
