Based in Mountain View, California, and Redmond, Washington, our team is dedicated to redefining the future of visual creation. We focus on developing intent-first visual artifacts through advanced machine learning pipelines, enabling users to effortlessly generate, customize, and edit high-quality visuals that meet their specific needs.
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Create team, you will shape next-generation visual creation experiences for millions of users. In this role, you’ll leverage cutting-edge AI models to build intuitive, intelligent, and inclusive design solutions. Working in a dynamic environment, you’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver innovations that redefine how people create and customize visuals in M365 Copilot.
This role is eligible to be based on-site in Mountain View, California or Redmond, Washington.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 1+ years of experience in software engineering, designing and developing systems (and APIs) that deploy and integrate with AI models.
- 2+ years of experience working with rich telemetry, making data driven decisions, and carrying out rapid experimentation.
- 2+ years of experience building software for scale, performance, and reliability.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- Academic or industry experience with building, finetuning, deploying or building eval-driven systems utilizing the models (any category)
- Experience leveraging leadership skills to influence others, with the ability to understand team dynamics, retain, attract, and develop team members.
- Experience demonstrating a growth mindset, and an advocate for inclusive development.
- Experience working on the design and implementation of a user-facing product - from fast, evolving new features to long-range infrastructure and architecture investments.
- Experience demonstrating customer focus and passionate about product impact.

Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable backend services optimized for machine learning workflows and large language model integration.
- Develop and maintain evaluation-driven systems that leverage text and multimodal inputs (e.g., images) to power visual-creation experiences.
- Build and optimize APIs and infrastructure to support high-performance model inference and experimentation at scale.
- Collaborate with product, Machine Learning, and design teams to integrate models into user-facing features, ensuring seamless functionality and performance.
- Conduct model evaluations and experiments, analyze results, and iterate on improvements to enhance accuracy and user experience.
