You’ll design and build the for the Copilot Platform, focusing on LLM APIs (large language model application program interfaces) and orchestration runtimes that power AI experiences at global scale. This role involves deep backend engineering—optimizing distributed systems, ensuring low-latency performance, and enabling secure integrations. You’ll collaborate with science and engineering teams to deliver new capabilities, empower partners to build Copilots and Agents, and create seamless multimodal experiences across desktop and mobile for text, image, audio, and beyond.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 4+ years of experience in distributed service architectures, with practical experience in API Design and managing applications on major cloud platforms.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 7+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- Experience with platforms that leverage language models.
- Experience with agile development methodologies and a passion for continuous improvement.
- Experience leading the design of software solutions in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Experience building debuggability into complex software systems
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

Responsibilities
- Architect, build, and optimize workflows to power various Microsoft M365 Copilot experiences and other next-generation Agent scenarios.
- Partners with Science, PM and Design counterparts to understand product requirements and latest trends in industry to drive architectural changes as required to improve scale, reliability and agility of the Product.
- Drive identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for the platform.
- Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guide other engineers by developing and following the playbook, and uphold high operational excellence.
- Proactively seek new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of the platform while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
- Define success metrics and enhance success metrics based on platform / product evolution.
- Embody Microsoft’s Culture and Values and help shape the direction of the engineering team and broader organization.
