As a Principal Data Scientist, you will design and deliver large-scale data solutions that power observability and capacity management for one of the world’s largest cloud platforms. Your work will focus on building high-quality datasets, big data pipelines, and low-latency data experiences that enable rapid detection, predictive insights, and operational excellence.
You will also develop customer usage models and forecasting systems to optimize capacity planning and drive innovation in our Capacity Operation System. This is a unique opportunity to shape strategy, influence platform-wide decisions, and deliver solutions that matter at hyperscale.

Responsibilities
- Design and implement big data pipelines and data warehouses to support observability and capacity operations
- Build and maintain large-scale datasets for telemetry, reliability signals, and customer usage patterns
- Develop predictive models and forecasting systems for capacity planning and operational efficiency
- Create low-latency data experiences for real-time detection and decision-making
- Collaborate with engineering and product teams to integrate data science solutions into production systems
- Drive innovation in observability and capacity management through advanced analytics and machine learning
- Ensure data quality, governance, and operational excellence across all solutions
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Doctorate in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics , or related field AND 8+ years of data science or applied machine learning for large-scale systems experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
- OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics , or related field AND 10+ years of data science or applied machine learning for large-scale systemsexperience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics , or related field AND 10+ years of data science or applied machine learning for large-scale systemsexperience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
- OR equivalent experience.

- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
