Within CO&I, the Global Datacenter Engineering (GDCE) team is responsible for delivering core Datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft’s cloud business. The Datacenter Engineering Mechanical Engineer will be part of the team responsible for the development of Microsoft’s industry-leading datacentre designs in the EMEA region on the Lease Portfolio
This position is a Subject Matter Expert providing key input to other organizations and stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be a professional/chartered mechanical engineer with extensive experience in datacentre mechanical engineering, design, construction, and operations. Candidate will be responsible for the technical review, analysis and coordinating the delivery of complex Datacenter mechanical systems, associated controls, and overall topology.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be a subject matter expert in Mechanical Engineering for the EMEA lease datacenter Engineering team. The position is for a subject matter expert who provides technical expertise to peers, and internal and external stakeholders in region.
They will review and report on lease provider technical designs against Microsoft requirements. The ideal candidate must be a senior mechanical engineer with extensive experience in data center mechanical engineering, design compliance, implementation of design requirements, construction, and operations.
Responsibilities include but not limited to, ensuring lease provider design compliance with Microsoft requirements, mechanical design reviews, assist in leading mechanical support staff and understanding and guide on complex data center mechancial systems, HVAC cooling systems, cooling equipment selection, plumbing systems, fire protection systems, fuel systems and mechanical Building Automation System (BAS) controls.
The candidate will ensure lease providers will adhere to Microsoft requirements and perform technical reviews and analyses of leased and colocation data centers from external providers for compliance with Microsoft requirements.
Key Responsibilities
| The successful candidate will design review mechanical infrastructure for Lease DC project buildouts, special projects, and retrofit upgrades and also assist in technical reviews addressing any issues during construction. They will, on occasion, be required to assess existing facilities to ensure compliance with Microsoft standards. The role involves collaborating with partners, leading design work groups, and conducting cross-functional meetings for multiple projects.

Qualifications
Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, or related field OR Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field related technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field ANDrelated technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND related technical engineering experience OR Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND related technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND related technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience.
- Registered Professional/Chartered Engineer in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience as a lead engineer with design, construction, operation or maintenance of large scale and complex mechanical engineering systems (Data Centres, Pharma, Micro Electronics are three examples of relevant industries)
- Candidate must possess strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail and maintain high quality standards.
- Detailed understanding of Datacenter mechanical design including but not limited to, HVAC, cooling systems, fire protection, fuel systems, plumbing systems, liquid cooling, BAS/BMS systems.
- Detailed understanding of availability and reliability, understanding sequence of operation studies and be able to extrapolate details in order to report to leadership team and provide technical evaluation for multiple stakeholders.
- Excellent knowledge of building codes and regulations.
- Experience in designing, operating, and good understanding of commissioning mechanical systems..
- Ability to lead a team of subject matter experts in mechanical engineering and operational processes and procedures as they relate to large data center environments.
- Knowledge of mechanical and control systems related to data center environments.
- Ability to perform complex business case analysis to justify technical decisions.
- Experience with CFD analysis and mechanical engineering software packages.
- Familiarity with ground-up construction, greenfield and brownfield site development requirements.
- Action-oriented with a passion for getting things done quickly, efficiently, and effectively.
- Ability to balance varying responsibilities that span rhythm of business, communications, executive management, and culture.
- Experience with using Bluebeam Revu and associated products.
- Expertise with AutoCAD, and 3D BIM programs such as AutoCAD or Revit.
