The M365 Core Design team is currently hiring a Senior Audio Engineer to join our creative team in building voices and audio experiences for Microsoft 365 Copilot.

In this role, you will work closely with colleagues across design, engineering, research, and branding to deliver large-scale multimodal experiences, helping define the future of voice in artificial intelligence.

Responsibilities
  • Develop refined components and user experiences.
  • Transform design concepts into functional prototypes and code, ensuring ongoing iteration for optimal results.
  • Provide constructive feedback and recommend innovative, effective solutions.
  • Inform stakeholders when technological limitations necessitate adjustments in design or engineering.
  • Adhere to best practices and offer thorough code review feedback to colleagues.
  • Collaborate closely with designers and product managers to develop prototypes that effectively communicate experiential goals beyond static compositions.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Graphic Design, Product Design, Visual Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 3+ years experience working in product or service design and/or shipping production code
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Graphic Design, Product Design, Visual Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 4+ years experience working in product or service design and/or shipping production code
    • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industry experience with audio software (e.g., Sound Forge, ProTools, Reaper, Audition, Izotope RX).
  • Experience with AI and data-driven design practices, especially developing synthetic voices using LLM technologies.
  • Experience in creating/modifying software tools for design and development.
  • Familiarity with programming at a high/mid-level (XML, Json, Wwise, Max, Python, JavaScript, etc.)
  • A proactive mindset – able to work autonomously with minimal supervision but love collaboration and sharing ideas and discoveries.
  • Solid interest and understanding in regards to enabling User Research through prototyping.
  • Solid understanding of production requirements and the willingness to steer work to minimize negative impact
  • Experience working with a multi-disciplinary team of designers and developers
  • A solid interest in design, technology, and trends, with an eye toward the future
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure services or AI/ML is a bonus, but not required

UX Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
