The Core Services organization owns the foundational services that power Teams, handling billions of requests daily across public, sovereign, and government clouds. You will be joining the Mystics team (part of Core Services) which drives Safe Deployment Practices (SDP) and safe change management across all environments. In addition, we help bring Teams to newly created sovereign clouds. This role offers the chance to deepen your system design skills and work with a modern tech stack (.NET Core, containers, caching, Azure Cloud) while owning high‑impact, cross‑team initiatives.
We’re looking for a proactive Senior Software Engineer with strong design, implementation, and automation experience. You’ll tackle core engineering challenges, build backend solutions, and collaborate across teams in a culture that values quality, innovation, automation, and business impact — directly influencing the experience of millions of users.

Responsibilities
- Design, development, and enforcement of safe deployment practices for Teams services ensuring security, availability and engineering team efficiency.
- Design, development, and enforcement of resiliency best practices for Teams services ensuring availability and safety for Teams' ever-growing user base.
- Design and develop automation that helps Teams achieve goal of 5 day buildouts in new clouds.
- Collaborate horizontally across multiple teams residing in various parts of the globe.
- Contribute to design documents and participate in code reviews.
- Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, and root cause analysis.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C++, C#, Go, Java, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 6+ years technical engineering experience designing, delivering, and operating highly available, large-scale cloud services and distributed systems in Azure.
- Drive to increase efficiency through automation.
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
