Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.

The Azure Database for PostgreSQL team is hiring a Principal Product Manager to build new Developer Experiences and Generative AI capabilities in Postgres on Azure that empower developers to build amazing new applications. In this role, you will engage with customers to learn about the apps they are building, tools they are using, understand their requirements and convert them into new innovative features and developer experiences that make Azure Database for PostgreSQL the best database for building new apps.

The candidate for this role will have technical experience in both database systems and AI technologies. They will have a proven track record of developing and delivering features that delight customers, and also have proficient development skills. Experience with the Azure platform and building Developer Platforms and Tools is preferred. This is a highly customer facing role, and experience in delivering highly impactful demos and presentations to customers and/or conferences is preferred. Key responsibilities include customer research, product envisioning, product planning and prioritization, GTM (go-to-market) readiness, and on-going analysis to identify issues such as attrition, reliability issues, or opportunities for growth.

Responsibilities
  • Defines and influences long-term product vision based on a deep understanding of customer needs, market and user research, the competitive landscape, and Microsoft’s business goals and strategy.
  • Developer of technical outbound facing content such as blogs, videos, white papers, demo applications, and technical conference sessions.
  • Evangelize Microsoft Postgres capabilities through internal and external channels to grow mindshare of the platform.
  • Capturing customer, partner, and community feedback to help influence product development direction of AI and Developer features of Postgres on Azure.
  • Collaborates across functions, teams and orgs on joint AI projects and initiatives. Ensures alignment between customers and internal stakeholders, and the goals and strategy of Microsoft.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • ​​Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

Job Requirements: Other & Additional

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • ​​Passion for writing and authoring thoughtful guidance with precise attention to detail to ensure consistent messaging and positioning across different channels and content types
  • Experience building popular Developer Tools
  • 2+ year(s) experience in developing AI/ML models, and integrating these into applications ​
  • Proficient communications skills, critical thinking and troubleshooting abilities
  • Love for engaging customers, listening, problem solving​

Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
