Within the Windows and Devices (W+D) organization, we are the Microsoft Devices Operations organization.

As part of our scope, we manage New Product Introduction, Product Engineering, Strategic Sourcing, Global Manufacturing Operations, Manufacturing Test & Infrastructure (MTI), Supply Chain, and Device Services.

Data is a key strategic asset for running Microsoft Devices Operations. We are seeking a skilled Senior Data Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate should have a solid background in data engineering, a passion for working with large datasets, and a drive to help our organization make data-driven decisions. You will be responsible for building, maintaining, and optimizing data pipelines and systems, ensuring data quality and availability, and supporting our data analytics, AI and ML initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • As a Sr. Data Engineer in MDO, you will lead critical initiatives to help our data platform scale to the needs of business priorities and technology advancements.
  • Build scalable data models and pipelines to extract, load, and transform data, ensuring secure storage with a focus on data quality and compliance on Azure using services such as ADF, HDInsight, Fabric, and Synapse.
  • Design and develop datasets that enable an AI-ready data platform supporting AI/ML pipelines, feature engineering, and Copilot applications.
  • Provide technical leadership across the team by mentoring engineers and leading solution implementation in alignment with approved business and data requirements.
  • Implement and Lead CI/CD pipelines for data engineering projects, leveraging tools like Azure DevOps.
  • Anticipate data governance needs, design modeling and handling procedures, and ensure compliance with laws and policies governing data accessibility.
  • Lead the design and maintenance of enterprise ontologies and semantic models to support AI and knowledge graph initiatives.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
    • OR equivalent experience
  • Have experience building cloud-based data pipelines and data stores.
  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering or a similar role.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Scala or Java.
  • Strong experience with SQL and database technologies and Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Fabric components and ecosystems (e.g., OneLake, Data Factory, Synapse).

Preferred Qualification is below.

  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks and metadata standards.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Experience working with and integrating AI/Co-Pilot applications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, including coaching, mentoring, and empowering junior team members
