​​Within Azure Data, the messaging and real-time analytics team provides comprehensive solutions and a robust platform that enables users to ingest high granularity signals (real-time & observability) and complex data, converting those into a competitive advantage in real-time for both end users and modern applications. ​

​​Azure Maps is the premier geospatial enterprise platform that helps you achieve more. It offers a rich set of location-based services for Azure enterprise customer applications, geospatial insights for data analytics, and location capabilities for web apps.

Our team is looking for a skilled senior software engineer to help us build the next generation of our Web and data analysis platform. Our customers use Azure Maps services through a variety of channels, including Web SDK, REST APIs, Power BI and Fabric Map, and more.

We are seeking driven software engineers with a growth mindset who are eager to learn and develop their skills. Additionally, we welcome engineers experienced in both front-end and back-end development to elevate our products to new heights. In this role, you will work with cutting-edge Web technologies, taking charge not only of coding tasks but also contributing to the product’s evolution and architecture.

Responsibilities
  • Act as a full stack engineer, designing and developing innovative features for the Fabric Maps, Azure Maps Web SDK, REST SDK and MCP server.
  • Collaborate closely with our sister teams to create seamless user interfaces that deliver the best experience for customers using Azure Maps in applications like Fabric Maps, PowerBI Azure Maps visual, and other Microsoft applications.
  • Participate in the regular on‑call rotation to ensure the reliability and availability of Azure Maps services.
  • Work with engineering and support teams to deliver forward‑looking solutions that improve platform robustness and maximize customer value.
  • Lead the integration of AI and LLM-powered systems into our CI/CD pipelines, transforming how features are built, reviewed, and shipped, dramatically improving development velocity and reliability.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • ​​Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, TypeScript, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience building cloud services, on‑premises services, or client‑side software.
  • Proven leadership in driving end‑to‑end software development efforts as a Project or Technical Lead, including mentoring junior engineers and elevating overall engineering excellence.
  • Strong verbal communication skills in English.
  • A growth mindset with the ability to embrace challenges, adapt quickly, and learn from setbacks.
  • Willingness to adopt and actively use AI-assisted coding tools to improve development efficiency and productivity.

Job Requirements: Other & Additional

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • ​​Recent experience building both web applications is highly desirable.
  • Proficient in one programming language, like C#, C++, TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, Go is a plus.
  • Prior experience with maps and geospatial technologies is a big plus.
  • Experience with advanced rendering/visualization technologies such as deck.gl and kepler.gl would be amazing!​
