We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help build and evolve the next generation of secure, scalable Identity and Access Management capabilities powering production‑grade environments. In this role, you will design and operate large‑scale distributed systems, drive high‑quality observability and operational excellence, and apply modern AI‑assisted engineering practices to accelerate developer productivity. The systems you build will have Microsoft‑level impact, supporting critical workloads across the company. You will work on cutting‑edge security technologies and have strong support from engineering leadership for your technical growth and long‑term career development.

Responsibilities
  • Design and build scalable, resilient distributed systems that deliver secure identity and access capabilities for production environments.
  • Implement strong observability and operational excellence practices, including metrics, logging, alerting, safe deployments, and live‑site readiness.
  • Develop and maintain Identity & Access Management features, such as authentication, authorization, policy enforcement, and secure access workflows.
  • Leverage AI‑driven tools and automation to improve developer productivity, code quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate across engineering, security, and platform teams to deliver high‑impact features, drive architectural improvements, and ensure secure‑by‑design principles—at Microsoft scale.


Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and / or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire / transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

    • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience developing scalable data ingestion and transformation systems in batch and near real time environments Success in an engineering development role delivering high-scale on-line or cloud services Experience with building Identity solutions and offerings Problem solving and communication skills

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
