Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers Microsoft's cloud services. As a Senior Test Engineer in the CTO Office of CO+I, you will be responsible for testing industrial control systems and similar technology, including PLC programming and SCADA integration for large-scale infrastructure environments. Familiarity with data acquisition frameworks for sensor data collection and analysis is essential. Practical knowledge of building systems such as HVAC, power distribution, plumbing, pumps, and piping is required. Candidates should also demonstrate proficiency in back-end software development, working with APIs and databases, and cloud-native architecture. The team is responsible for developing new innovative solutions for Microsoft's data centers including operations technology, automation systems, cooling infrastructure and infrastructure systems. You will work closely with other engineers and customers to design, prototype, test, and deliver high-quality and reliable solutions that meet the performance, efficiency, and scalability requirements of Microsoft's cloud services.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Test control systems for operations technology and infrastructure technology in datacenter environments.
- Collaborate with internal and vendor teams to qualify new technology meant for AI data centers.
- Gather requirements and test to ensure that control systems are reliable, safe, efficient, and meet those requirements.
- Test and provide DFx for technology systems based on performance feedback.
- Document test requirements, test plans, test procedures and test reports to qualify new technology focused on control system specifications and designs.
Qualifications
Required/minimum qualifications
- Doctorate Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience
- OR Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience
- OR 12+ years relevant technical engineering experience.
Background Check Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or preferred qualifications
- Doctorate Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience
- OR Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 7+ years technical engineering experience
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 9+ years technical engineering experience.
- Direct experience with testing machine design & safety standards.
- Direct experience with cybersecurity standards in a Data Center environment.
Reliability Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
