Overview

The Global Clouds Strategy & Pursuit (GSP) team leads the strategy for Microsoft 365 clouds geographic expansion and data residency strategies. We build and evaluate business cases for cloud expansion investments, oversee the delivery of core Microsoft 365 services in local region datacenters, and continuously optimize existing investments while expanding into new geographic regions as customer needs evolve.

As our platform and deployment models evolve (including increasing dependence on Azure-provided capacity and longer lead times for certain capacity types), capacity becomes a first‑order product and business risk. This role is for a Principal Product Manager who will sit at the intersection of M365 workload partners, Azure and M365 capacity teams, and finance/business stakeholders to drive proactive and reactive strategies that protect customer experience and business commitments, while optimizing how we deploy and scale capacity globally.

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

Responsibilities

This is a strategic, technically deep, and highly cross‑functional role focused on three outcomes:

  1. Avoiding capacity-driven customer impact (prevention + rapid mitigation)
  2. Maximizing business value from regional vs. global capacity allocation
  3. Unblock expansion opportunities into new markets to meet customer demand, so we can enter new markets at the lowest cost without creating migration or growth risk
  4. Model AI-forward program leadership by applying automation and tooling to reduce manual overhead and increase throughput of capacity reviews, insights, and operational follow-ups.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience leading complex, cross-team programs in a matrixed organization with strong dependency, risk, and stakeholder management.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate ambiguous technical/business problem spaces into clear plans, decision points, and measurable outcomes.
  • Solid executive communication skills—able to frame tradeoffs crisply under time pressure and drive alignment across diverse stakeholders.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree AND 12+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years experience taking a product, feature, or experience to market (e.g., design, addressing product market fit, and launch, internal tool/framework).
  • 6+ years experience improving product metrics for a product, feature, or experience in a market (e.g., growing customer base, expanding customer usage, avoiding customer churn).
  • 6+ years experience disrupting a market for a product, feature, or experience (e.g., competitive disruption, taking the place of an established competing product).
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure, distributed services, capacity planning/forecasting, or service deployment at scale.
  • Familiarity with Azure capacity/supportability concepts and/or datacenter constraints (space/power/hardware supply), including cross-region tradeoffs.
  • Experience partnering with finance to quantify cost/ROI, opportunity cost, and prioritization under constraints.
  • Proven record driving operational mechanisms (cadences, playbooks, dashboards, governance) that materially reduce incidents and improve readiness.
  • Capacity risk prevention and mitigation (avoiding customer impact and protecting business commitments).
  • Cross-cloud capacity collaboration (M365 workload demand + Azure supply/supportability + datacenter constraints).
  • Capacity fungibility and resiliency strategy (where/when we can flex capacity across regions and what guardrails are required).
