Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers our cloud services. As a CO+I Electrical Engineer, you will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform. Responsibilities
  • Act as an operations Subject Matter Expert (SME) with primary focus on Electrical Power Distribution systems- from High Voltage to Low Voltage power distribution.
  • Continuously expand expertise across critical environment systems, including mechanical systems, controls, and power generation, performing advanced tasks independently.
  • Inspect and oversee critical environment facility equipment (e.g., electrical, HVAC, mechanical, and control systems), buildings, and grounds to identify unsafe or abnormal conditions, escalating per policies and standards.
  • Serve as the technical authority for on-site operations of large-scale electrical power distribution, control systems, and designs.
  • Lead project execution, owning technical solutions, vendor delivery, performance management, and proactive risk identification.
  • Own Maintenance and Repair contractual scope from your vendors, including terms, conditions, and commercial aspects of assigned contracts.
  • Actively contribute to operational budget planning and CAPEX (projects), ensuring accurate forecasting and on-time spend.
  • Use the Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to track equipment assets and execute maintenance work orders.
  • Develop, enhance, and maintain operational procedures such as EOPs, MOPs, and SOPs related to CE operations and incident management.
  • Perform planned, predictive, and corrective maintenance following approved procedures across electrical and related CE systems.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and maintenance vendors to ensure spare parts strategy and availability.
  • Demonstrate strong hands-on expertise in equipment operation, troubleshooting systems, subsystems, and components independently.
  • Provide technical guidance to peers and act as an escalation point for complex troubleshooting.
  • Lead onsite incident response for abnormal operational conditions, coordinating corrective actions and serving as the technical authority through incident resolution, key decisions, and closure.
  • Ability to lead Root Cause Analysis and drive corrective programs to resolution.
  • Ensure full compliance with safety, security, EH&S, JHAs, toolbox talks, and Microsoft operational standards.
  • Support team development as an SME, contributing to technical certification programs, 1:1 coaching, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Contribute to the development of training materials for technician teams.
  • Lead and support Environmental Sustainability and Governance initiatives, including energy audits, certifications, and compliance programs.
  • Partner with suppliers and third parties to deliver Zero Waste and sustainability objectives aligned with Microsoft goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to present effectively to senior leadership and lead regional initiatives with clear purpose and direction.
  • Consistently embody Microsoft’s culture and values.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Extensive technical engineering experience
    • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field AND technical engineering experience
    • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field AND technical engineering experience.

Background Check Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

While not required, we also look for the following Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years of technical engineering experience.
