Senior Product Designer

Studio 8, a multi-product, multi-disciplinary Design team in Microsoft China, has an opening for an experienced, motivated and innovative Senior Designer in our Beijing studio.
At Studio 8 we work on a broad variety of Microsoft products for markets around the world. As a Senior Designer, you will play a critical role in the product making process for Microsoft M365 Copilot experiences and the M365 Copilot experience that are integrated across the Microsoft Office Apps.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strengths in all stages of product development and be able to drive from definition to ideation to delivery working with local and global partners in design, product management and engineering. She should have outstanding skills in designing interaction and visuals for software and the web.

Responsibilities
- Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 4+ years experience working in product or service design
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 5+ years experience working in product or service design
- OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems).
- Design management: Efficiently manage design activities for multiple simultaneous projects under the SharePoint umbrella.
- Design strategy: Set design strategy and guidelines to guide design work for new features based on a deep understanding of user needs, business goals and technical limitations.
- Conception: Work at the early concept phase by facilitating ideation sessions, storyboarding, brainstorming, creating user scenarios, and sketching early stage mockups.
- Interaction design: Produce design briefs, information architecture diagrams, wireframes, interaction flows, low-fi prototypes and other artifacts required to develop and evolve user experience designs.
- Visual design: Implement the Microsoft visual design language (including grid, typography, color and other design-language patterns) for the products and deliver visual assets (icons, logos, layout redlines, screen mockups, hi-fi prototypes) to development counterparts on time and with quality, in accordance with agile methodology.
- AI powered experience design: Design end-to-end AI driven user experiences, including conversational, generative, and assistive scenarios, across Microsoft 365 Copilot and related surfaces.
- Communication: Effectively communicate design strategies, concepts and solutions to peers, partners and stakeholders throughout the organization.
- User-centered Iteration: Partner closely with PMs and engineers to define interaction patterns for AI features, including prompt design, response behaviors, error handling, transparency, and user control in AI assisted experiences.
- Global alignment: Work closely with design counterparts in global teams to align design proposals and execution consistency.
- Agile method practice: Practice a highly efficient, iterative design process with light documentation.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Communication Arts, Information Design, or equivalent education or experience
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Information Design, or equivalent practical experience
- 6+ years of experience designing and shipping products used at scale in high volume markets
- 2+ years of experience leading design projects and driving work from concept through delivery
- Proven experience defining design guidelines, systems, and common patterns across products
- Strong expertise with modern design tools (Figma, Sketch, Photoshop, After Effects); familiarity with frontend technologies (CSS, JS, C++) is a plus
- Ability to rapidly produce clear, high quality design artifacts such as wireframes, flows, prototypes, and diagrams
- Experience designing AI powered or data driven products, including conversational interfaces
- Strong understanding of human AI interaction principles, including prompt design, user mental models, progressive disclosure, and designing for AI uncertainty and failure states.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with product managers, engineers, applied AI, and data science partners to translate AI capabilities into intuitive user experiences.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present compelling design narratives to diverse audiences; English proficiency required, Mandarin a plus.
- Strong design sensibility, attention to detail, mentoring capability, and a growth mindset with strong interest in emerging AI technologies and continuous learning.
