Overview

The Microsoft Edge browser team is hiring a Product Manager II to own and grow the student browsing experience, from high school classrooms to college campuses. As the inbox browser for over 1.5 billion Windows devices, Edge is Microsoft's most-used consumer product, and this role sits at a uniquely high-leverage intersection: helping students learn smarter, read deeper, stay organized, and harness the power of AI, all from within their browser.

Students today are doing more of their academic lives online than ever before. They're reading research papers, annotating textbooks, writing essays, juggling dozens of open tabs across multiple assignments, and increasingly turning to AI to help them think and create. Yet most browser experiences were never designed with them in mind. This role is your opportunity to change that.

Many of Edge’s current features already resonate deeply with students — Immersive Reader for distraction-free reading and text-to-speech, PDF annotations for highlighting and marking up academic documents, and Copilot's multi-tab context for synthesizing content across open tabs. You'll evolve these into a cohesive, AI-powered student experience that makes Edge the browser students reach for — not just the one they're assigned.

What makes this role compelling:

  • Serve a high-stakes audience: Students don't have time for friction. A better reading tool, a smarter annotation flow, or an AI assistant that actually understands their research context can directly improve academic outcomes, at massive scale.
  • AI is the frontier, not the future: With Copilot Mode's multi-tab context and summarization capabilities already in Edge, you'll be building on a live AI platform, designing student-specific experiences that go far beyond what any standalone AI tool can offer.
  • Beloved features with untapped depth: Immersive Reader, PDF annotations, and Read Aloud are already used by millions of students. You'll unlock the next generation of what they can do.
  • Cross-platform, real-world impact: Students move between Windows laptops, Tablets, and phones. Your features need to work consistently, and delight across all of them.

Microsoft's mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees, we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

Starting January 26, 2026, Microsoft AI (MAI) employees who live within a 50-mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location are expected to work from the office at least four days per week. This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction.

Responsibilities
  • Own the end-to-end student experience across Edge's learning-centric feature portfolio.
  • Define and drive AI-powered student features using Copilot in Edge — including multi-tab research summarization, AI-assisted annotation, Copilot-powered study tools, and context-aware academic assistance, ensuring they meet the real needs of high school and college students.
  • Conduct user research and competitive analysis with K–12 and higher education students to identify pain points in reading, research, writing, and organization workflows, translating insights into crisp, actionable product requirements.
  • Partner with design and engineering to define end-to-end experiences that balance academic utility, accessibility, and age-appropriate safety and privacy controls.
  • Write detailed product specifications and work closely with engineering teams to ship features across Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android.
  • Collaborate with Edge feature teams, and other teams across Microsoft to create deeply integrated, seamless academic experiences.
  • Design and execute experiments using Edge's data platform to validate hypotheses around engagement, learning outcomes, and feature retention, measuring what truly moves the needle for students.
  • Use telemetry, user feedback, and academic market trends to define success metrics, identify experience gaps, and drive continuous iteration.
  • Stay current on education technology trends, accessibility standards (WCAG), AI safety guidelines for minors, and emerging student-focused browser capabilities from competitors.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 3+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development.
  • 3+ years of product management experience shipping consumer-facing software products.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive technical initiatives and collaborate with engineering teams on complex, multi-platform features.
  • Solid communication skills with experience working across global, distributed teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience building products for students, or education institutions.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft's education ecosystem.
  • Track record of independently owning complex product areas from strategy through execution, including AI-powered features.
  • Experience with experiment design, A/B testing, and data-driven iteration at scale (millions of users).
  • Solid storytelling skills for both technical and non-technical audiences, including school administrators, educators, and students.
  • Background or solid interest in AI/LLM-powered user experiences, particularly in education or productivity contexts.
