Job Summary

Information Engineering overview:
As members of the Information Engineering team at NetApp, our technical writers are clear and professional communicators. We are strategic thinkers and creative problem-solvers, and we are passionate about understanding user needs, unraveling ambiguous or complex information, and then developing clear and meaningful documentation to help our readers learn about and use our products. At NetApp, you’ll join a diverse team of writers and make a direct impact on our customers by working with product teams to both serve and delight our customers with optimal information.

UX writing overview:
User experience with NetApp products is a collaborative effort between Product Design, User Experience, and Information Engineering. These teams monitor and evaluate industry best practices, conduct benchmark testing, and perform competitive analysis to develop products and content that reflect NetApp brand and product marketing priorities.

Intern project:
QuickQuery helps teams create clearer, more consistent content faster. It organizes AI-powered prompts—curated or custom—so writers and designers can start every draft from a strong, on-brand baseline. The result is fewer repetitive edits, smoother reviews, and quicker onboarding for anyone creating content in any platform such as UI text, docs, or other product content. As an intern on the IE team working closely with our UX writer, you will make a substantial contribution to expanding the quality and use of QuickQuery.

  • Audit existing prompts
o Review curated project prompts to spot unclear phrasing, inconsistent tone, missing metadata, or outdated guidance.
o Flag duplicates/overlaps and propose consolidation.
  • Standardize formatting and metadata
o Apply consistent naming, tagging, and structure (tone notes, input instructions, use cases).
o Ensure prompts align with our style guidelines (clarity, conciseness, sentence case).
  • Create missing foundational prompts
o Draft high value utility prompts (e.g., “shorten,” “improve clarity,” “active voice,” “summarize for executives”).
o Partner with writers to validate and refine.
  • Improve onboarding documentation
o Update the QuickQuery setup/how to guide with clearer steps and screenshots.
o Write a brief “getting started” walkthrough for new users.
  • Support beta user testing
o Observe/assist in sessions, collect feedback and screenshots, synthesize themes and usability issues.
o Feed prioritized findings back to the team.
