Title:
Post Doctoral Research Associate

Department:
Mathematical Sciences

Reports To:
Professor

Position Type:
Staff

Position Summary:
For this post doctoral position, the main task is to construct a biophysical model for the spontaneous transition of a primary cilium from an immotile state to a motile state. The PI (Dr. Young in the Department of Mathematical Sciences) has established certain conditions for such transitions based on results in literature. These conditions put various constraints on the model, and the postdoctoral researcher is to work with the PI to investigate the validity of such a constrained model.

Essential Functions:
The post doctoral researcher is expected to:
-Perform biophysical modeling using both ordinary and partial differential equations, with insights from dynamical analyses and matched asymptotic calculations.
-Be able to solve differential equations (both initial-value and boundary-value problems) using numerical techniques.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
-PhD in Applied Mathematics, Soft Matter Physics with skills in Modeling, Ordinary Differential Equations, Dynamical Systems, Partial Differential Equations.
-At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Techniques in Modeling Fluid-Structure Interactions at zero Reynolds number, using Boundary Integral Methods to simulate relevant systems, and applying asymptotic analysis to study the underlying physics.

Bargaining Unit:
AFT-UCAN
