Professors Amanda Starc, Craig Garthwaite, and David Dranove are looking for an Empirical Research Fellow for a period of at least one year, but ideally two years.

Research fellows work closely with faculty on a number of new and ongoing projects in in economics fields with an emphasis on healthcare. Research fellows collect and organize data, conduct statistical analysis and provide other support associated with faculty research.

The idealcandidate shouldbe completing(or have completed) a Bachelor’sor Master’sdegreeandwillhave:(i) a strongquantitative background;(ii) excellentprogrammingskills(especiallyin Stata, R or Matlab);(iii)pastexperience withresearch, includingindependentwork(suchasan undergradthesis) or workasa researchassistant.A backgroundin Economicsisa strongly recommended, thoughnotrequired;in fact, we encourage candidateswithstrongtechnical backgroundswhoare lookingtoreceive more exposure toEconomicsorFinance.

Previous holders of this and similar positions at Kellogg have gone on to Ph.D. programs at the University of Chicago, Harvard, MIT, Northwestern, Princeton, and Stanford.

The preferred startdate is July1, 2026 though earlier startdates will be considered. Applications will be evaluated on arollingbasis,butall applications submitted byFebruary 28, 2026 will be given full consideration.The selected candidate will be offered a one-year appointment, with the abilityto renew for one year based on performance.

The base pay for this position is $50,000.

Northwestern University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree, training, and field or discipline; departmental budget availability; internal comparators; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
