Principal Site Reliability Developer

Work with the Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team on the shared full stack ownership of a collection of services and/or technology areas. Understand the end-to-end configuration, technical dependencies, and overall behavioral characteristics of production services. Responsible for the design and delivery of the mission critical stack, focusing on security, resiliency, scale, and performance. Authority for end-to-end performance and operability. Partner with development teams in defining and implementing improvements in service architecture. Articulate technical characteristics of services and technology areas and guide Development Teams to engineer and add premier capabilities to the Oracle Cloud service portfolio. Understand and communicate the scale, capacity, security, performance attributes, and requirements of the service and technology stack. Demonstrate clear understanding of automation and orchestration principles. Act as ultimate escalation point for complex or critical issues that have not yet been documented as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Utilize a deep understanding of service topology and their dependencies required to troubleshoot issues and define mitigations. Understand and explain the effect of product architecture decisions on distributed systems. Demonstrate professional curiosity and a desire to develop a deep understanding of services and technologies.
Requirements and Experience:
- BS or MS in Computer Science, or equivalent.
- Experience identifying and implementing complex solutions related to:
- Server hardware and software configuration.
- Networking and standard internet services.
- Scripting languages.
- Cloud computing patterns.
- Technology security and compliance.
- Experience operating large-scale, customer-facing web services.
- Knowledge of load balancing technologies.
- Experience in development with:
- Programming languages.
- Databases and big data stores.
- Container technologies.
- Defining and documenting the technical architecture of complex and highly scalable products.
- Minimum of 8+ years of experience running large-scale, customer-facing web services.
- Ability to handle mission-critical production issues and appropriately manage customer anxiety.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of Exadata, Real Application Clusters, Oracle database, Storage, and Linux fundamentals.
- Oracle Exadata Database Machine and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Certifications - Preferred
- Knowledge of network fundamentals such as VCN, Ethernet, RoCE, TCP/IP, routing, DHCP etc.
- Experience automating management of Linux based infrastructure.
- Ensures system security with understanding of Infrastructure Network Security.
- Ability to automate tasks using Python, Perl, bash, Ansible
Soft Skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a global virtual team environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Cloud services management, monitoring, troubleshooting and debugging experience
- Experience with build automation, continuous integration, or continuous deployment tools
- Experience with containerization technologies and modern tools such as Docker, Github, Jira, Teamcity, and Bitbucket
