About the Role:
The Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Oracle Functions team seeks a visionary, results-driven Director of Engineering to lead and grow our world-class group. Oracle Functions is central to OCI’s serverless strategy, providing a seamless environment for customers to build, deploy, and operate cloud-native applications. As adoption and use cases expand, our internal and external stakeholders rely on us to deliver innovative, robust, and highly available serverless experiences. This role offers a unique opportunity to define both the tactical execution and strategic direction of the Oracle Functions service at Oracle.
Key Responsibilities:

Service Ownership & Operations:
Own and drive Oracle Functions’ operations, ensuring outstanding customer experience, system reliability, high availability, security, and optimal performance. Lead incident response, root-cause analysis, and adopt best practices for operational excellence and scalability. -
Feature & Architectural Leadership:
Guide and coordinate new feature development across multiple agile teams. Drive core architectural improvements, technical roadmaps, and platform enhancements in collaboration with engineering and product management to meet evolving business needs. -
Strategic Direction & Community Engagement:
Advance Oracle Functions as the preferred serverless platform within OCI by working closely with the broader OCI engineering and product communities. Build strong partnerships, address complex requirements, and champion serverless adoption across Oracle. -
Metrics & KPIs:
Define, track, and report on KPIs and goals that measure the team’s impact and service’s business outcomes. Use data-driven methodologies to prioritize work, monitor progress, and ensure accountability toward tactical and strategic deliverables. -
Talent Development & Leadership:
Inspire, mentor, and retain top engineering talent by setting clear objectives, providing ongoing feedback, and fostering professional growth. Guide managers in establishing team goals, monitoring performance, and developing talent aligned with organization needs. -
Project Management:
Provide disciplined execution for all engineering initiatives. Own and communicate timelines and priorities, remove obstacles, and ensure continuous momentum across projects.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including substantial technical leadership in cloud, distributed systems, or serverless environments.
- 7+ years of experience managing and scaling engineering teams, including direct line management and mentoring of leaders.
- Proven track record of delivering reliable, scalable, and high-performance cloud services.
- Deep understanding of modern cloud computing, serverless architectures, and distributed systems.
- Successful cross-team and cross-org collaboration experience, ideally in large-scale organizations.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience establishing KPIs, OKRs, and delivering against ambitious business and technical targets.
- Demonstrated passion and ability for developing people and aligning talent growth with business objectives.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise with serverless platforms, managed cloud services, and large-scale distributed systems.
- Experience with operational excellence initiatives and customer-facing service improvement programs.
- Prior Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) experience highly desirable.

Lead incident response, root-cause analysis, and adoption of best practices for availability and scalability. You will provide Feature & Architectural Leadership, set Strategic Direction & lead Community Engagement, define Metrics & KPIs and be responsible for Talent Development & growth.
