Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill one (1) part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Technical Services Student Technical Assistant position at Oregon State University (OSU).

The Student Technician in UIT-Academic Technologies Technical Services will collaborate with professional staff to install, maintain, and troubleshoot audio/visual and broadcast/production systems in studios, creative/learning labs, and conferencing/collaboration spaces. Additionally, the role involves assisting with imaging and testing of installed computers in labs, event engineering, and other assigned duties.
Position Duties
  • Conduct service and testing of audio/visual and broadcast systems throughout academic terms, reporting issues into the IT trouble ticket database.
  • Perform computer imaging and testing under the direction of Technical Services IT Consultants.
  • Provide basic instruction on the operation of audio/visual and broadcast systems to clients as necessary.
  • Assist with event setups, operations, and teardowns as needed.
  • Support audio/visual and broadcast technology upgrades, new installations, maintenance, and service under the supervision of a professional technician.
  • Lead or assist in troubleshooting technology/system issues in studios, labs, conference rooms, and event sites.
  • Assist the Manager in maintaining campus-wide conference room service/testing scheduling.
  • Ensure the safety and security of the Academic Technologies working area.
  • Maintain a clean, professional, and appropriate working environment.
  • Provide customer service and support/event coverage throughout the week with a flexible schedule (shifts start at 7:30 am and end at 7:30 pm).
  • Participate in sports broadcast production, including producing and maintaining graphics/ads on the broadcast stream, verifying statistical information, controlling live scoreboards, and communicating continuously with the broadcasting crew/personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 2 years.
