The Galimba Tree Fruit Horticulture Lab at the Mid-Columbia Agricultural Research and Extension Center (MCAREC), Oregon State University (OSU), is seeking to hire 2–3 temporary Student Technical Assistants for the 2025 summer field season in Hood River, Oregon. Our research focuses on all aspects of pear and sweet cherry orchard production systems, with a particular emphasis on improving fruit quality and optimizing yield in both crops.
Student assistants will support ongoing research related to pear and cherry tree physiology and orchard management. They will work both independently and as part of a small team to collect, process, and organize data from field and laboratory settings. Duties include assisting with field trials, data collection, sample processing, and general maintenance of the lab, greenhouse, and orchard.
Supervisors will provide initial guidance on priorities, objectives, and deadlines. Once trained, student assistants are expected to carry out tasks independently, seeking support when encountering procedural questions or challenges.
