Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Student Technical Assistant for the EOARC Union at Oregon State University (OSU).

The Martyn Ecology lab is looking for a research technician interested in helping with some current and future projects on seed-based restoration out at EOARC – Union.
Position Duties
  • counting seeds
  • preparing agar for germination experiments
  • counting germinants from the field and on a thermogradient table
  • setting up & running greenhouse experiments
  • trips to the field to collect seed
  • running dispersal experiments
  • entering data into Excel
  • scanning seedling roots
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Interest in seed-based research, attention to detail, experience in data entry/management, good communication skills
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
Hours are flexible. Some projects needed to be checked daily (i.e. counting germs on the thermogradient table) and in such a case the technician will work with Dr. Martyn to develop a schedule on who will check which day (for example – Martyn: Sat, Sun, Mon, Fri & Tech: Tues, Wed, Thurs). A handful of tasks could be performed separately at EOU (including counting out seeds, greenhouse experiments, and counting germinants from field germ bags) but the technician must be able to work at EOARC as well.
· Start date – as soon as possible
· Location – Eastern Oregon Ag Experiment Center (EOARC) in Union, OR
· Pay – $14-18/hr depending on experience
· Hours – Academic year (up to 12hrs per week); Summer (up to 40 hrs per week)
