Position Summary
This recruitment is to fill (2) part-time (fewer than 20 hours per week) Graduate Student Project Assistant Position in Ma’s AI4Food Lab in the Department of Food Science and Technology at Oregon State University.
The laboratory is located on campus in Wiegand Hall.
Position Duties
The Ma AI4 Food Lab focuses on developing artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning methods to enhance food safety, quality, and processing. This position involves performing routine technical and specialized tasks, which may include Python programming as well as training and testing machine learning models.
Position duties:
70% machine learning model development and programming
20% general operation related, such as assisting with data collection and statistical analysis
10% writing reports

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Obtained bachelor’s degree in computer science, Agricultural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Food Engineering or relevant majors.
  • Currently enrolled as a graduate student at Oregon State University
  • Proficient in Python programming and machine learning
  • The applicant must be organized and dependable.
  • The applicant must be willing to work independently and within a team environment.
  • The applicant must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
