Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week during academic terms and a maximum of 40 hours per week during academic breaks) graduate Student Project Assistant for the Department of Environmental & Molecular Toxicology at Oregon State University (OSU).

Join the Tanguay Lab at the Department of Environmental and Molecular Toxicology, Oregon State University, to support ongoing research projects while managing digital communications and media content. We are seeking a motivated graduate student to assist with various research projects as needed and maintain the laboratory’s digital presence through website management, social media, and multimedia content creation. This position offers valuable experience in research support, digital communications, and emerging technologies in academic settings.
The successful candidate will contribute to research projects, manage digital platforms, create engaging media content, and utilize digital tools for content development and communications workflows. This role requires advanced education, technical proficiency, and the ability to work independently on graduate-level tasks.
Position Duties
75% Research Project Support:
  • Assist with ongoing research projects in zebrafish high-throughput screening as assigned
  • Support data collection, analysis, and organization for various laboratory studies
  • Conduct literature searches and compile research materials for project development
  • Assist with experimental setup, documentation, and quality control procedures
  • Prepare research summaries and technical documentation as needed
  • Support principal investigators and graduate students with project-specific tasks
  • Contribute to laboratory maintenance and general research operations
25% Media Content & Digital Communications:
  • Convert laboratory publications and research papers into various media formats (podcasts, videos)
  • Maintain and update laboratory website content with current research and news
  • Manage social media accounts and create engaging posts about laboratory activities
  • Develop visual content and graphics for digital platforms
  • Utilize digital tools for content adaptation, script generation, and media enhancement
  • Produce media content using various production software and digital tools

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled graduate student at Oregon State University
  • Strong interest in toxicology and zebrafish research
  • Proficiency with digital tools and willingness to learn new applications
  • Basic media production experience or strong willingness to learn
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and follow project instructions
  • Strong written communication skills for content development
  • Comfortable working with digital tools and emerging technologies
  • Transportation to Sinnhuber Aquatic Research Laboratory required
  • Flexible schedule availability including occasional weekend work
Work will be performed primarily at the Sinnhuber Aquatic Research Laboratory (28645 E Hwy 34, Corvallis, OR 97333) with flexibility for remote editing and administrative work.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • Background in biological sciences, environmental science, or related field
  • Experience with digital tools for content creation and media production
  • Previous experience with website maintenance, social media management, or multimedia production
  • Familiarity with zebrafish research or laboratory techniques
  • Experience with digital content creation, social media platforms, and workflow optimization
  • A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity
