Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill six (part-time positions (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Event & Guest Services Student Technology Assistant positions for the The LaSells Stewart Center at Oregon State University (OSU).

The LaSells Stewart Center is Oregon State University’s premier performing arts and conference venue which hosts a wide range of campus and community events year-round. With over 40,000 square feet of conference and performance space, The LaSells Stewart Center hosts a wide variety of events year-round, including conferences, lectures, concerts, cultural celebrations, and art exhibitions.

This role provides hands-on experience for audio visual (AV) equipment and programming in both a live and pre-set environment for the various events hosted at The LaSells Stewart Center. In this environment AV can include, but is not limited to, lighting, sound, and video. This position would be ideal for those wanting to gain experience in both event technology operations as well as stage production.

Position Duties
Technology Support (Technology | Critical Thinking | Teamwork)
· Set up and support various event technology such as microphones, speakers, and computers
· Perform light repairs on various lighting, sound, and video equipment
· Mix live sound from a soundboard for a large auditorium and smaller lecture hall
· Run live lighting from a lightboard for a large auditorium
· Troubleshoot programs for clients such as PowerPoint, Zoom, and Adobe Acrobat Reader
Event Setup & Operations (Professionalism | Critical Thinking | Leadership | Technology)
· Assist with room setup and breakdown with an emphasis on AV equipment used
· Ensure signage, event materials, and supplies are accurately placed and ready for the client’s events
· Support clients with setting up presentations, testing microphones, or anything else needed by the client
· When needed, perform small tasks to ensure the building is clean and presentable like wiping down tables, clearing areas, or picking up trash
Professional Development (Career & Self-Development | Technology | Critical Thinking)
· Participate in team huddles and debriefs with event staff
· Learn the basics of sound and lighting in a conference & event center
· Shadow facility staff, AV technicians, and event coordinators when available
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
• Currently enrolled in a program that emphasizes working with sound equipment, lighting equipment, or stage production
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
• Ability to remain calm and composed in fast-paced or high-pressure situations
• Detail-oriented, dependable, and able to follow instructions
• Basic knowledge of the Microsoft Suite, Goggle Suite, & Zoom
• Comfortable with light physical tasks involving lifting around 40 lbs. (lifting chairs, lifting tables, walking campus distances)
• Previous experience working with sound and/or lighting equipment

Working Conditions / Work Schedule
Hours will vary and include some early morning, late evening and weekend shifts. A set number of agreed upon hours will be honored.
