Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill one (1) part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) online Research Assistant for the Office of Educational Ventures at Oregon State University (OSU).

The Ecampus Research Unit is seeking a part-time (minimum of 6 hours per week, maximum of 12 hours per week) undergraduate online student to join our social science research team. The undergraduate student researcher reports to the Director of Research.
The unit responds to and forecasts the needs and challenges of the online education field through conducting original social science research; fostering strategic collaborations; and creating evidence-based resources and tools that contribute to effective online teaching, learning and program administration.

  • To provide the opportunity for undergraduate Ecampus (distance) students to gain experience in conducting social science research on online education remotely, under the direction of the Research Unit.
  • To provide the opportunity for undergraduate Ecampus (distance) students to receive mentorship from Research Unit, and to build professional relationships that can help advance their careers post-graduation.

  • Students will gain experience in working in teams conducting social science research in online education.
  • Students will gain applied experience that is tied to their academic program.
  • Students will be involved in data analysis and the dissemination of research findings.
The research position requires a two-consecutive term commitment (Fall and Winter quarters). The position may be renewed for two additional academic quarters based on excellent performance.
Students may also register to receive academic credit. We will offer PSY 401 – Research for a minimum of 2-credit hours per term. (1 credit hour = 30 hours of work per quarter). The Research Unit, student, and departmental advisors will communicate to determine the best course and credit level for the individual student’s degree plan.
This position is eligible for remote work for students not located in the Corvallis, OR area.
This is a fully remote position for an undergraduate distance student working outside of the immediate Corvallis, OR area.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Ecampus (distance) student
  • Completed a minimum of 36 Ecampus credits
  • 3rd year/junior level status or higher
  • Completed a Research Methods/Statistics Course at OSU

Working Conditions / Work Schedule
The Student Researcher will be required to:
  • submit a weekly schedule of work hours at the beginning of each term
  • check in (via email, or Teams) with the Director or Associate Director at the beginning and end of each set of work hours
  • attend at least one synchronous meeting per week with the Director or Associate Director of the Research Unit
  • store all Research Unit work in designated university box folders
