The Family and Community Health Program in the Division of Extension and Engagement is seeking a Southern Willamette Valley Food Security and Safety Outreach Coordinator. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position. This position is located in Eugene, Oregon.

This Southern Willamette Valley Food Security and Safety Outreach Coordinator is a member of the regional and statewide teams of the OSU Division of Extension and Engagement’s (division) Extension Family and Community Health (FCH) program serving Lane, Linn and Benton counties. This Outreach Coordinator position is based at the OSU Extension Service Lane County Office in Eugene, Oregon.

This Southern Willamette Valley Food Security and Safety Outreach Coordinator (FSS Outreach Coordinator) provides leadership and oversight for regional food security and safety outreach, including food preservation instruction. The FSS Outreach Coordinator assesses community needs relating to food security and safety, develops an outreach plan, cultivates community partnerships, and implements programs that support access to safe, healthy, and culturally appropriate foods. This individual is responsible for training, managing, and leading active MFP volunteer groups in support of food security and safety program goals.

This FSS Outreach Coordinator is responsible for designing, developing, maintaining and/or carrying out educational programming and outreach activities to serve broad and diverse populations in an accessible, inclusive, equitable, and socially just manner. This includes complying with Civil Rights and Language/Visual Access regulations.

Key Responsibilities
70% – Food security program development and delivery
  • Provide oversight and leadership for the food preservation in Lane, Linn and Benton Counties.
  • Provide leadership and educational support for volunteers to implement non-credit educational programs.
  • Supervise activities to ensure compliance with OSU policies and positive impact on programmatic goals.
  • Coordinate activities through regular newsletters, meetings, and other group communications.
  • Develop active programs for updating and re-certifying volunteers.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness and impact of non-credit educational programs.
  • Participate actively as a member of state FCH work groups.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to Extension FCH program development at the statewide and national levels, via participation in statewide or national conferences, discussions, and webinars.
  • Foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement to ensure that assessments and programming are informed by the needs and voices of participants and community members representing the broad and diverse backgrounds and cultural identities of the counties assigned.
  • Collaborate with regional and statewide academic and professional faculty members to enhance effectiveness.
  • Provide annual impact statement reports adhering to Extension criteria.
  • Create opportunities to enhance access, inclusion, and relevant best practices and include these activities in the annual plan of work, impact statements, and summary of accomplishments/achievements.
  • Complete the division’s civil rights training session(s) and coordinate the completion of employee(s) supervised and by volunteers.
  • Create accessible and inclusive environments that make space for a range of learner needs and provide reasonable accommodations.
  • Lead community-based planning and inter-agency collaborations to determine community needs related to food security and safety.
  • Develop and expand upon collaborative community partnerships to create innovative programming that is effective, inclusive, and culturally responsive.
  • Develop new programming in a manner that complements existing programs and services and maximizes impact.
  • Deliver engaging non-credit workshops and short courses that increase knowledge, skills, and participation in local food production and preservation to broad and diverse audiences. Travel/driving is required to deliver these non-credit educational programming and services throughout Lane, Linn and Benton counties.
  • Create research-based educational materials and/or utilize existing research-based materials to support the delivery of non-credit educational programs.
  • Evaluate impact of new programming on community needs and share results with statewide and national FCH colleagues.
  • Explore and plan for fee-for-service programming.
  • Partner with OSU Foundation and statewide FCH team to explore and obtain grants to sustain and grow programs.

Supervision/Leadwork
  • Supervise individuals who have various identities, cultural backgrounds, communication styles and expectations.
  • Oversight of MFP volunteers in Lane, Linn and Benton Counties.
  • Provide leadwork to student workers and interns.

15% – Communications
  • Serve as the point person for coordinating answers to regional clientele questions, collaborating with campus-based academic and professional faculty, as needed.
  • Disseminate research-based information through a wide variety of communication streams, including traditional media, social media, outreach events, and workshops.
  • Implement marketing tools that increase awareness of programs and participation of broad and diverse audiences.
  • Market and effectively promote the activities, programs and services of OSU Extension Service and OSU.
  • Promote programs and resources in a way that reaches audiences from diverse backgrounds and life experiences and cultural identities.
  • Use technology as a tool to increase the reach and impact of program delivery on constituents, including participating in Ask Extension and using the division’s customer relationship management system.
  • Facilitate effective communication with key stakeholders and the general public to promote programs, market Extension and increase support for Extension programs, utilizing appropriate print and digital tools.
  • Communicate effectively program level work to community stakeholders and decision makers at local and statewide levels.
  • Follow OSU and division brand guidelines, digital publishing standards and digital contact management data integrity practices for programmatic communications, marketing and engagement.
  • Attend training opportunities to build basic knowledge and consistent skills to use digital communications, marketing and engagement technologies relevant to position duties.

10% – Program records
  • Keep records and provide necessary reports and other documentation to administrators as requested and needed for program effectiveness. Collect and maintain records for program participation and evaluation data for programs and contribute data to necessary annual reports.
  • Contribute to the bi-monthly newsletter ‘Growing’ and report yearly impact statements.
  • Maintain record of work contacts, personal vehicle mileage for work travel, supplies purchased; other data/statistical information/records, as requested.
5% – Service to university and Extension
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships and/or membership with professional organizations and public agencies.
  • Develop/maintain a liaison with organizations/agencies in Lane, Linn and Benton Counties.
  • Attend scheduled OSU Extension Lane, Linn and Benton County and relevant program meetings and trainings.
  • Participate in relevant statewide/regional conferences, workshops, meetings and trainings.
What You Will Need
  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, human sciences, nutrition, education, or a closely related field. Degree must be completed by the start date.
  • Demonstrated teaching, designing and/or developing Extension or other informal/non-credit educational programs.
  • Experience with home or commercial food preservation and/or food safety.
  • A commitment to collaborative and respectful learning and working environments that are safe, inclusive, and welcoming.
  • General knowledge and ability to use computers, including proficiency with information technology, professional office software and collaborative work platforms.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with ability to communicate successfully with a broad and diverse audience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage volunteer programs, including recruitment and training.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to using multiple forms of digital communication systems, including websites, email newsletters, social media, and other tools in a changing technological environment.
  • Ability to lead groups and work as a team member with other professionals and volunteers.
  • Ability plan, organize, evaluate, manage, and delegate details associated with program management.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
What We Would Like You to Have
  • Master’s degree in public health, human sciences, nutrition, education, or a closely related field.
  • Two (2) or more years’ teaching, designing and/or developing Extension or other non-credit community educational programs.
  • Experience with digital engagement strategies, including use of online content, multimedia, email campaigns, customer relationship management systems or marketing methods.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) and ability to engage Spanish-speaking audiences.
  • Ability to secure external funding support.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
  • Flexibility to perform work in a variety of office and work settings. Evenings and weekends may be required based on events and other educational programming needs.
  • Ability to work in a variety of settings and participate for extended periods at community events.
  • Ability to transport program materials.
  • Travel/driving is required to deliver programming and services at various sites throughout Lane, Linn and Benton counties.
  • Weekly in-person visits to each county office are expected.
