Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (max 12 hours during term, 24 hours during breaks) Student Technical Assistant position for the Department of Horticulture at Oregon State University.
The work is in support of entomology research: insect rearing, greenhouse plant maintenance, molecular entomology, and other duties in the lab.
This position will be located in a federal building at the USDA-ARS Horticultural Crops Research Unit. 3240 NW Orchard Ave, Corvallis OR 97330.

Position Duties
  • 50% insect rearing and plant maintenance in greenhouse
  • 35% lab assistance/maintenance (autoclaving, cleaning, organizing, restocking, etc.)
  • 15% other duties assigned in lab (data entry, molecular biology projects)
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

  • Ability to work with very small organisms
  • This position is in a federal building and the incumbent must successfully obtain appropriate security clearance within 90 days of the employment start date
