Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill two (2) part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week)Research Student Intern position for the Klamath Basin Research & Extension Center at Oregon State University (OSU).
This position is part of a collaboration between OSU-KBREC and The College of Agriculture Science and Education (CASE), Jamaica which offers a rewarding learning experience and allows the student to gain valuable skills and knowledge in an international environment. The program is intended to: provide a unique learning experience

Position Duties
90% Field Research
Duties include:
  • Work closely with Assistant Professor, Faculty Research Assistants and other team leads to assist with plot management, seeding, planting, irrigation, insect collection, data collection, and processing of crops and associated farm duties.
  • Maintain accurate field notes and enter data in field using apps or Excel datasheets
  • Records and summaries research observation for team leads
10% Office (or other) Work
  • Completion of online or in person safety training is required
  • Use of desktop or laptop computers to enter lab and field data and maintain notes
  • Other duties may include a variety of site landscaping & maintenance of lawns, weeds, etc. Typical tasks include repairs & maintenance of facilities such as fences and buildings; operation, repair & maintenance of equipment such as farm machinery, irrigation systems, motors, and pumps.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Strong verbal, written and communication skills
  • Good organization and planning skills
  • Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program
  • Must be willing to work in varying conditions both indoors and outdoors including inclement weather.
  • Must be willing to work in dirty and loud environments. Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
Possess or ability to obtain an ATV certification within 30 days of hire and maintain while in the position.
Possess or ability to obtain a forklift operator certification within 30 days of hire and maintain while in the position.
