Position Summary
This position will be used to fill two (2) part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Student Technical Assistant position for the Department of Food Science and Technology (FST) at Oregon State University (OSU). Performs research in support of academic faculty Elizabeth Tomasino’s research program.

Position Duties
Duties to be determined by the hiring unit but may include cleaning lab, routine to complex technical tasks in support of Dr. Tomasino’s research. The research will be related to field work, data gathering, analysis, smoke trials, winemaking, and assisting with preparation of samples for sensory panels. The work may include laboratory, data collection, or simple analysis and involve assisting Primary Investigator in writing research reports and manuscripts. Other duties as assigned.
20% of the candidate’s responsibilities will be the cleaning lab.
70% of the candidate’s responsibilities will be performing experiments, and data analysis using bioinformatics tools.
10% of the candidate’s responsibilities will include some laboratory organization/design, where needed, in order to increase the laboratory’s efficiency for experiments.
The position has access to use hazardous chemicals.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
The candidate must be able to communicate effectively in oral English.

Must be able-bodied and be sufficiently familiar with the equipment that is to be used.
