The Centre for Secure Information Technology (CSIT), in the School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EEECS) at Queen’s University Belfast, seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Hardware & Embedded Systems Security.

CSIT is an Innovation and Knowledge Centre (IKC) in cyber security funded by EPSRC and Innovate UK since 2009. It is internationally recognised for its research and innovation activities and has received numerous awards including a Queen’s Anniversary Prize in 2015 and recognition as an Academic Centre of Excellence (ACE) in Cyber Security Research and in Cyber Security Education by the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).

CSIT’s research direction is shaped by its strategic partners, Thales and Rolls Royce, and it enjoys collaborative research partnerships with a range of industry and academic organisations, including CYLAB at Carnegie Mellon University, ETRI, South Korea, and CERIAS at Purdue University. CSIT also hosts the UK Research Institute in Hardware Security and Embedded Systems (RISE: ukrise.org). Uniquely for a UK research centre, CSIT includes a significant engineering capability who work alongside dedicated commercial and innovation professionals with deep domain expertise to help accelerate research to market.

We are seeking a candidate who will push the boundaries of research in hardware & embedded systems security, and who will inspire students and facilitate motivational learning.

About the person:

The successful candidate will be expected to lead and undertake research in areas such as semiconductor security, EDA security verification, side channel/fault analysis and applied cryptography.

The essential criteria of the post are:

  • A PhD in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • Recent, relevant postdoctoral research experience in cybersecurity.
  • High quality research (commensurate with career stage) in hardware & embedded systems security, as evidenced by verifiable involvement in the generation of milestone papers in leading conferences and journals or major funding initiatives.
  • Evidence of independent contribution in research projects and outputs and potential to establish an independent sustainable research program.
  • Evidence of potential to secure research income.
  • Teaching experience commensurate with career stage. This can include, but is not limited to, undergraduate or postgraduate teaching, assessment, and/or industrial training activities.
  • A record of collaboration with and links to industry, or other activities aiming at achieving broader societal and economic impact.
  • Evidence of the ability to plan and deliver a programme of research and identifying suitable sources of funding.
