The Red Hat Quality Engineering (QE) team is looking for an intern at the position of Automation Engineer to join us in Brno, Czech Republic. You will explore new possibilities for Linux and apply your interest in computer security to improve Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Fedora. You'll have an opportunity to grow and familiarize yourself with operating system security and technologies like IPSec, SELinux, Transport Layer Security (TLS), audit, security compliance, and certifications too.

Red Hat’s Intern Program is a collaborative effort between the Emerging Talent team and our intern managers. The program is designed to offer a meaningful and well-rounded experience — combining professional development, networking opportunities, social engagement, and impactful work. This is a paid internship based in our Brno office, typically lasting 12 months, with the possibility to extend up to 24 months. Interns work on average 20 hours per week, with flexible working hours, and the expected start date is February 1st.
What you will do:
Use your programming expertise and Linux security knowledge to support high-quality solutions with a focus on productization of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
Closely collaborate with other team members and stakeholders.
Get involved in open source projects and communities.
Stay up to date with the latest technologies and development methodologies.
What you will bring:
You must be enrolled in a Czech university (Bachelor’s 3rd/4th year or Master’s) for the full internship duration and be able to work full-time within 2 years.
Working knowledge of written and spoken English.
Orientation as a Linux power user or orientation in general Linux system administration able to accomplish basic administrative tasks in the terminal, e.g., install packages, work with filesystem, etc.
Familiarity with basic text processing utilities such as grep, sed, etc.
Understanding of the linux architecture, boot process, services, etc.
Basic knowledge of shell scripting (Bash).
Understanding of key operating system concepts.
Analytical thinking and good problem-solving skills.
Will to work as part of a team and learn and develop new skills.
The following are considered a plus:
Interest in security and cryptography.
Knowledge of Python or any other programming language.
Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) interest or experience.
Involvement in some upstream open source projects.
Experience with modern agile software development principles, methodologies, and processes.
