Software Engineer - RHEL CoreOS and Fedora CoreOS (Brno Office or Waterford Office)

Red Hat Engineering is looking for a Software Engineer to focus on Software Quality to join the CoreOS team with a focus on RHEL CoreOS and Fedora CoreOS container-optimized operating system spins. In this role, you’ll be part of a globally distributed team and will coordinate work with other software quality engineers, software engineers, product managers, product owners, management, partners and community members to write new features for a rapidly changing container orchestration space. You will develop and execute test automation against FCOS/RHCOS and its interactions with other products and projects within Red Hat’s portfolio. To do so successfully, you will learn to be an expert in the offering architectures, how they integrate with other solutions, and the ways they are used by our customers.
Since container technology is still evolving, it’s not expected that every candidate will come in with the experience required to start complex testing scenarios on day one. This is a great opportunity to learn how to work in a fast paced environment. You’ll get to work on many emerging technologies, such as Ignition, afterburn, bootc, bootupd and maybe even create some new ones. You’ll need to work independently because sometimes with these new technologies, documentation isn’t abundant but there are always team members around to help in our team’s highly collaborative environment.
What you will do
- Design, build, and maintain scalable and robust test automation frameworks to validate the functionality, performance, and reliability of CoreOS
- Ensure the ongoing stability and security of components by addressing high-priority bugs, handling CVEs, and performing necessary backports and rebases
- Participating in development work prioritized by the team
- Work with development teams to review test gaps and ascertain the appropriate test levels to confirm that both teams are working together to reduce overlap
- Contribute to the core product codebase, with a focus on improving system testability, reliability, and overall quality.
- Mentor other engineers on best practices and help foster a culture of quality throughout the team.
- Participate in and contribute to relevant upstream open-source communities
What you will bring
- Experience in software engineering, Python language skills are mandatory, any experience with Go/Rust is a big plus
- Solid understanding of Linux/UNIX operating systems.
- Demonstrable experience in designing and developing test automation frameworks or related tooling.
- Solid debugging, troubleshooting, and diagnostic skills
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively in a distributed, global team environment
- Basic knowledge of container technology stack is an advantage
- Experience of how Open Source and Free Software communities work is a plus
- RHCSA certification or Red Hat Certified Specialist in Containers is plus
