The Red Hat Networking Services team is looking for a software engineer to join us in Brno. In this role, you will maintain and evolve network configuration tools for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) such as Nmstate, NetworkManager and ModemManager. You will collaborate with colleagues and community members in the open-source way to enable our customers and users to set up networking for their workloads. As a senior software engineer, you will bring your skills and experience to shape the future of network management and lead to deliver excellent software to our customers. We are a friendly, distributed Scrum team with a dedicated Scrum master and Product Owner and offer continuous development opportunities.


What you will do:

  • Form the future of network management by evolving Nmstate, Nispor (written in Rust), NetworkManager (written in C) and the Ansible System Role for Networking (written in Python)

  • Analyze customer issues and requirements to provide solutions and guidance

  • Ensure high quality of the team’s projects with acceptance and unit tests paired with code reviews

  • Promote the team’s projects with documentation, blog posts, presentations and other means

  • Lead and collaborate with upstream communities and internal teams

What you will bring:

  • 5 years of experience with software development, ideally for Linux, with Scrum or agile methodologies in a hybrid software/quality engineering team

  • Proven software development skills in Rust (preferred), C, and Python with experience in leading the design of major features

  • Ability to use and provide meaningful feedback for continuous learning and experience with active mentoring

  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills in English with presentation experience

  • Personal accountability with regular, clear and open communication shaping incremental improvements of projects and processes

Experience in the following areas is considered a plus:

  • Scrum and other agile methodologies

  • Test/Spec-driven development, extreme programming, or pair programming

  • Collaboration in a distributed team across different continents

  • Experience with AI tools and services

  • Blogging, Vlogging or presenting at conferences

  • Networking concepts and protocols like Bonding, LLDP, DHCP, VPN, Netlink
