About the Job

The Red Hat Ansible Engineering team is seeking a highly experienced and proactive Senior Software Engineer to take ownership within our crucial Product Delivery Engineering group.

In this high-impact role, you will be a recognized go-to expert for our automation software delivery pipeline and advanced testing frameworks. You will transition from executing tasks to designing, architecting, and enabling reliable, scalable delivery, with a focus on leveraging AI/ML tooling to modernize and accelerate our testing and delivery capabilities. We are looking for an engineer who provides direct technical impact by ensuring the Ansible Automation Platform is delivered with enterprise-grade quality, security, and efficiency across the globe.

What You Will Do

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be a technical owner of the CI/CD and testing subsystem, helping to drive strategy and execution:

  • Design and Own CI/CD: Design, implement, and maintain scalable CI/CD pipelines to support continuous integration, deployment, and delivery of the Ansible Automation Platform, optimizing for speed and reliability.

  • Decompose and Deliver Complex Solutions: Accurately scope out and decompose large, complex development tasks within the delivery pipeline, ensuring timely and complete solutions through collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams.

  • Shape Best Practices: Champion and shape rigorous engineering standards for code quality, automated testing, and secure deployment, mentoring the team in these practices.

  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Lead the design of features by collaborating with platform engineering, product management, and upstream communities to integrate delivery processes and ensure end-to-end supportability.

  • Mentorship and Coaching: Actively mentor and coach junior team members and peers on technical domain knowledge and execution best practices.

What You Will Bring

  • Expert Proficiency in Programming: Expert proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Go, Python, or Java) for building scalable backend services or infrastructure automation.

  • Deep CI/CD Mastery: Proven, deep expertise in designing and operating complex CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure on Linux operating systems.

  • Enterprise-Grade Delivery: A track record of consistently delivering reliable, high-volume enterprise-grade software solutions.

  • Technical Domain Expertise: Proven ability to apply knowledge as a knowledgeable practitioner to transform technical challenges into practical, implementable solutions within a defined technical area (CI/CD, Testing, or Infrastructure as Code).

  • Aptitude for AI Tooling: A willingness and readiness to evaluate, integrate, and work with emerging AI/ML tooling to improve software development and quality processes.

  • Collaboration & Communication: Demonstrated ability to work effectively across a globally distributed team, communicating technical concepts clearly and advancing the product through cross-functional collaboration.

  • Version Control Fluency: Solid knowledge of Git and collaborative development practices, often acting as a subsystem owner/maintainer for key repositories.

  • Experience with container orchestration and related technologies like Kubernetes and OpenShift

  • Familiarity with the Ansible Automation Platform or experience using Ansible for automation.

  • Practical cloud experience with AWS, GCP, and Azure.

  • Direct experience with AI/ML tools used for code analysis, test optimization, or predictive failure analysis in a DevOps environment.
