About the Job:
Red Hat's Core Kernel team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer / Principal Software Engineer with a deep passion for system-level engineering and low-level operating system components. In this role, your work will influence the direction in a core subsystem of the Linux Kernel. You will be part of a growing team focused on software development and testing that may include both kernel and user space packages.
Most of the work is centered around development and testing of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux kernel. As a Senior or Principal Software Engineer, you will work in this combined software development and testing role within a scrum team, and you will work broadly with teams focused on continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) that support Red Hat Enterprise Linux releases.
What will you do?
Perform design, implementation, review, and testing of Linux kernel code
Backport fixes to Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) releases
Lead the architecture and implementation of continuous integration pipelines using tools like Jenkins.
Design, develop, and maintain robust test frameworks ensuring these frameworks are scalable, reliable, and easily consumable by the team.
Triage complex system failures. Analyze kernel panics, core dumps, and kernel logs to identify root causes and distinguish between automation issues and product bugs.
Communicate and help coordinate dates, deliverables, feature requirements, roadmaps, etc.
Work effectively as part of a distributed, agile team with remote members.
What will you bring?
Experience developing software using C on Linux
Strong proficiency with Python and automated testing technologies such as Jenkins, or equivalent
Experience with software testing concepts and frameworks
Working experience in linux testing and debugging
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Experience with Git
Outstanding problem-solving and collaboration skills
Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and work with minimal supervision
Motivated and dedicated to learning
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field; an advanced degree is a plus.
