Role Summary

Rivian Service team is a full stack team of developers working on cutting-edge technologies, driving the evolution of our service operations. We are seeking a highly skilled and visionary Staff Full Stack Software Engineer to join our dynamic team and play a pivotal role in establishing and shaping the new Service team in Serbia.
As a Staff Full Stack Engineer in the Service team at Rivian, you will be a technical leader and architect, responsible for defining and driving the technical direction of critical data and capabilities for our service operations teams. You will own the end-to-end architecture and implementation of enterprise-level software solutions within a cloud environment, ensuring scalability, reliability, and long-term maintainability. You will proactively identify and address systemic challenges, influencing technical strategy across multiple teams and contributing to Rivian's overall engineering excellence.


Responsibilities

  • Architectural Leadership: Define and champion architectural standards and best practices for backend microservices and frontend applications, ensuring alignment with Rivian's long-term technical vision.
  • Strategic Design and Development: Lead the design and implementation of complex, scalable, and maintainable backend microservices (NodeJS, NestJS) and frontend applications (React with TypeScript), driving technical innovation and efficiency.
  • API and GQL Mastery: Drive the development and evolution of robust RESTful APIs and GQL endpoints (Apollo Studio), ensuring seamless data exchange and optimal performance across the service ecosystem.
  • Cloud Platform Ownership: Take ownership of the AWS cloud infrastructure (Lambda/EKS/SQS/SNS/Messaging bus), driving the implementation and optimization of backend services for scalability and resilience.
  • Data Strategy and Implementation: Define and implement data storage strategies using DynamoDB, ElasticSearch, and other NoSQL/SQL databases, ensuring data integrity, performance, and scalability.
  • Containerization and Orchestration Expertise: Lead the implementation and optimization of Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration, driving efficiency and automation across the development lifecycle.
  • Messaging Architecture and Implementation: Design and implement robust messaging systems (AWS SQS) to support real-time data processing and event-driven architecture, ensuring reliability and scalability.
  • Performance Optimization and Systemic Problem Solving: Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and address systemic challenges to enhance the overall reliability and efficiency of the service platform.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration and Influence: Lead cross-functional technical initiatives, collaborate with product managers, DevOps engineers, and other stakeholders, and influence technical direction across the organization.
  • Technical Mentorship and Guidance: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to senior and junior engineers, fostering a culture of excellence and driving technical growth across the team.
  • Quality and Documentation Excellence: Champion best practices for code quality, testing (integration/unit), and documentation, ensuring maintainability and knowledge sharing.
  • Proactive Technology Evaluation: Research and evaluate emerging technologies, driving innovation and identifying opportunities to improve the service platform.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 8+ years of professional software development experience, with a proven track record of architectural leadership and technical excellence.
  • Expert-level proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, NodeJS, and RESTful API development.
  • Deep expertise in AWS cloud technologies, particularly Lambda functions, EKS, SQS, and SNS.
  • Extensive experience with containerization and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Proven ability to design and implement robust messaging systems like AWS SQS.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with DynamoDB and ElasticSearch, with a deep understanding of data modeling and optimization.
  • Strong understanding of DevOps practices and tools for CI/CD, with a focus on automation and efficiency.
  • Strong experience in GQL and Apollo Studio.
  • Proven ability to lead complex technical projects and drive technical innovation.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills, with a focus on addressing systemic challenges.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across 1 teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide other engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
  • Ability to self learn, and adapt to changing environments.

  • Nice to have:
    • Experience with Contentful CMS.
    • Experience in the automotive service industry.
