Job Description

About Rivian

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.

As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Role Summary

As our Product Stamping Specialist, you will be tasked with improving the efficiency of our stamped part designs and the sustainability of our stamping processes.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and continuously improve our Material Utilization (MU) toolset and associated processes for stamped sheet metal components.
  • Use standard automotive process simulation software (e.g., AutoForm, Inspire Form) to analyze and optimize sheet metal part designs for stamping processes.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain reporting dashboards and analytical tools in collaboration with internal cross-functional partners to track key metrics related to sheet metal components.
  • Lead our relationships with external software partners for forming simulation and MU optimization tools.
  • Develop, document, and implement a standard Bill of Process (BOP) and design best practices for our stamped sheet metal components.
  • Provide direct ("at the elbow") technical support to Design Release Engineers (DREs) throughout the product development lifecycle, from virtual design phases through production launch.
  • Develop and deliver training materials to enhance the engineering team's knowledge and skills with respect to stamping design and process optimization.
  • Ensure the creation of comprehensive and robust part and process specifications to be included in Request for Quotation (RFQ) packages for stamped components.
  • Collaborate with Procurement and Supplier Development teams to thoroughly review supplier responses to RFQs and assess their technical capabilities for manufacturing stamped components.
  • Lead and drive continuous improvement initiatives and cost reduction opportunities related to Material Utilization (MU) across existing product lines and new product development programs.
  • Participate in tooling try-outs at supplier facilities and lead the optimization of blank and coil dimensions from initial trials through to serial production.
  • Act as a key technical liaison with in-house manufacturing teams to ensure smooth and efficient production of stamped sheet metal components, addressing any technical challenges that may arise.
  • Lead or support investigations into supplier stamping issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Contribute to the selection and validation of sheet metal materials for specific applications, considering cost, performance, and manufacturability.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to sheet metal forming and design.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science in an engineering discipline (Masters degree is a plus)
  • 5+ years of first-hand experience leading teams in developing, validating, and launching production tooling and supplier optimization.
  • Able to create and modify CAD geometry using Catia v6
  • Adept with multi-step stamping simulation software (e.g., Autoform)
  • Strong understanding of the first-principle physics and requirements of automotive body structures
  • Systems approach to design and development with the desire and curiosity to strive for continuous improvement
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Passion to develop people and teams as a core part of the role
