Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conducts vulnerability scanning and penetration testing
  • Investigates services and application security. Performs security comparative review, security risk assessment, and security validation
  • Performs operational duties during security incident responses, troubleshoots and performs root cause analysis for security solutions
  • Analyzes, designs, and installs complex enterprise security solutions and frameworks
  • Designs security solutions architecture, selects tools and partners, and configures and manages capacity, changes, documentation, and reporting
  • Contributes to the documentation of security processes and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of security architecture principles and best practices for system and network protection
  • Knowledge of advanced cybersecurity tools, such as firewalls and intrusion prevention systems
  • Skill in deploying and configuring cybersecurity tools and technologies to mitigate risks
  • Skill in designing and implementing security measures to protect IT infrastructure and sensitive data
  • Ability to lead complex technical projects
  • Ability to analyze complex security threats and develop proactive solutions to prevent breaches
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve advanced security incidents with minimal supervision

Minimum Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • 2 years of experience
  • Equivalent combination of experience & education may be considered

Job Level Overview

Specialized Contributor Level 2 - A fully functional role requiring established knowledge of the profession or field of work. Responsible for completing substantive assignments and projects. Problems are varied and non-routine, and resolution requires exercising judgment, analysis, advisement, creativity, and understanding broader sets of issues. May provide assistance to entry level staff.


Additional Details:

The Cybersecurity Engineer II is responsible for planning and implementing various technologies to support academic and research activities for the college. This position will need to work effectively as a member of a medium-sized team that is responsible for the technology operations of the college. The individual will be the primary liaison to RIT's Information Security Office.

The Cybersecurity Engineer II will be responsible for implementing and maintaining the college's systems, teaching labs, and network. The position requires the ability to research technologies, troubleshoot systems, and networks for software, hardware, and security-related issues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Investigates the security of services and applications, utilizing expertise in communications and network security, identity and access management, client-side, server-side, databases, and application development.
  • Performs the analysis, evaluation, design, testing, configuration, installation, implementation, administration, monitoring, reporting, maintenance, and support of complicated enterprise security solutions and frameworks.
  • Leads operational aspects of security incident response, troubleshooting, support, and root cause analysis.
  • Collaborates to develop strategic technical security direction for the college.
  • Supports the college's academic mission through client administration, server and data storage administration, and network administration.
  • Supports the college's research mission by advising faculty researchers on equipment purchases, research project technology needs and support, and RIT policy compliance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • RIT experience strongly preferred
  • 3 years minimum experience working with medium-large IT environments
  • Communications - ability to effectively communicate information about highly technical solutions, situations, and terminology in a way that will be easily understood by customers, team members, management, and nontechnical people
  • Customer Focus - ability to establish and maintain productive relationships with customers
  • Flexibility/adaptability - ability and willingness to change direction/priority and focus to meet changing organizational and business needs.
  • Continuous improvement - Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to improve the quality of service to internal customers
  • Technical expertise to carry out the major responsibilities listed above
