What you'll do:
We are looking for a Senior Network Engineer with extensive experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining robust and scalable network solutions in a 24X7 Global multi-platform cloud SaaS environment. The role requires expertise in various cutting-edge technologies and a demonstrated ability to align technical solutions with business objectives. The Senior Network Engineer will work closely with Product Management, Product Engineering, Global Operations and business owners to develop and implement strategic network architecture that supports SAP’s goals and business requirements.
Key Responsibilities & Tasks:

Network Architecture and Design:
-
Develop and communicate architectural vision and roadmaps for network solutions.
-
Design and implement sustainable, cost-effective network architectures that support SAP’s cloud SaaS environment.
-
Technical Expertise:
-
Hands-on experience with Palo Alto (Next Generation Firewalls, Prisma Cloud, Panorama), Cisco Nexus switches, Cisco Routers, F5 BigIP, Istio, Kubernetes and more.

Proficient in Google Cloud networking and associated services.
-
Experience with programming languages and tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Python for example and experience with automation to improve efficiency.

Architectural Decision-Making:
-
Drive architectural decisions with a profound, long-lasting impact on financial and technical outcomes.

Manage architectural trade-offs and technical debt proactively.
-
Guardrails and Governance:
-
Establish and communicate architecture guardrails to ensure compliance with security, performance, and scalability standards.
-
Ensure that IT solutions adhere to the established architecture guardrails.
-
Collaboration and Guidance:
-
Provide architectural guidance across the teams to ensure alignment with strategic goals.
-
Collaborate with all products, engineering and operations architects to optimize network solutions.
-
Guide and mentor across the network team to share knowledge and skillsets to raise the level of the team holistically.

Complex Problem Solving:
-
Resolve complex network issues independently and provide regular project status updates.
-
Enhance complex systems and processes to improve network performance and reliability.

Work with Support and external customers to resolve complex customer related problems in a timely and professional manner.

Accountability:
-
Responsible for the delivery and outcome of assigned projects or areas of responsibility.

Held accountable for high-quality network architecture deliverables and architectural decisions.

Must work with the global team to ensure work continues across three shifts daily with proper handoff of priorities and knowledge to support a 24X7 business.

Management of both remote-access and site-to-site VPN tunnels in a primarily Palo Alto Network environment.

Accountable for on call and maintenance window work in rotation with the rest of the team.

Contributes independently to resolve complex issues in the network architecture domain.

Works independently on cross-functional or cross-country projects, setting priorities and having sole responsibility.

Experience:

Advanced technical skills with several years of increasing responsibility in network engineering.

Subject matter expertise in cloud networking and associated technologies.

Consulting experience is a plus.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Certifications in relevant technologies (e.g., Cisco, Palo Alto, Google Cloud) are a plus.

5+ years experience designing, deploying and maintaining large data center environments.
-
2+ years in a SaaS production environment.
-
Experience with monitoring tools such as Solarwinds, Dynatrace, etc.
-
Experience with ticketing systems such as ServiceNOW, Jira, or similar.
-
Solid knowledge of LAN/WAN technologies.
-
Solid knowledge of TCP and UDP protocols.
-
Solid knowledge of BGP, OSPF and EIGRP.
-
Solid knowledge of STP.

Compensation Range Transparency: SAP believes the value of pay transparency contributes towards an honest and supportive culture and is a significant step toward demonstrating SAP’s commitment to pay equity. SAP provides the annualized compensation range inclusive of base salary and variable incentive target for the career level applicable to the posted role. The targeted combined range for this position is 141700 - 240900(USD) USD. The actual amount to be offered to the successful candidate will be within that range, dependent upon the key aspects of each case which may include education, skills, experience, scope of the role, location, etc. as determined through the selection process. Any SAP variable incentive includes a targeted dollar amount and any actual payout amount is dependent on company and personal performance.
