About Smart Infrastructure – Electrification and Automation:

The Electrification and Automation (EA) Business Unit offers the full range of energy distribution systems and solutions for all markets and through all sales channels. We provide reliable power distribution grids of today while investing into our Future Grids portfolio and applications to create the power distribution grid of the future. Our comprehensive portfolio meets the growing technical requirements of today’s and tomorrow’s power grid!

The EA Business Unit in Wendell, North Carolina, which is its U.S. headquarters, focuses on medium-voltage power distribution equipment including primary and secondary switchgear, controllers, contactors, circuit breakers, OEM and replacement/retrofit solutions, and services. Additionally, assembly of low-voltage motor control centers and low-voltage switchboards are assembled at the factory.

We are looking for a Test Development Engineer. This position will be based in Wendell, NC.

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Test Development Engineer provides leadership and expertise in establishing and maintaining an efficient manufacturing program in support of the division’s strategic plan. The Test Development Engineer represents key facets of the Siemens overall solution and sustainable growth plan for the factory within the corporate strategy of operations for the future. The role will be responsible for test systems to ensure product performance, quality, and long-term reliability of end solutions to our customers. The role will have responsibility for test systems development, inclusive of test systems HW & SW development, CapEx budgeting and build scheduling to ensure test capacity in the factory, and to ensure secondary test options are available. Key factors for a successful candidate will include prior experience working with electronics & electro-mechanical manufacturing and test; ability to develop test SW to automate and improve test efficiency and accuracy; and provide data analytics. A strong team building orientation is required. The role covers AC Charge test systems for or Buy American partner factories in the USA. The role is based in Wendell, NC and requires the incumbent to be on-site.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Test System Design
    • Provide test requirements input to “product feature specification”
    • Based on the requirements and regulatory specification, design production test system to insure compliance to spec.
      • Customer spec
      • SAE J1772, UL2231, UL2202, UL1741, IEC 62169, etc
  • Production Test
    • Collaborate with cross functional team to access Design Verification Test data and determine production test requirements
      • Establish test plan and test parameters
    • Responsible for the release of test plan and procedure in Team Center
      • Factory test config control
    • Responsible for the budgeting, purchasing, building and commissioning of production test systems
      • Hardware
      • Software – Lab View/Test Stand
    • Implement and qualify production test systems
      • GR&R
      • Shop floor control and traceability
    • Sustaining test engineering support
      • Production data storage and management
      • Analyze production test data
        • determine actions to improve product and test process
        • Reduce test cost

You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in engineering from an accredited 4 year university. (Advanced degree in engineering is a strong plus)
  • 7+ years of direct experience developing Automated Test Systems with SW in the Lab View / Test Stand environment
  • Test Data management and report generation to support statistical analytics.
  • Highly experience with test and measurement equipment in manual and automated mode. Equipment such as, but not limited to, Power Quality Meter, O’Scope, DMM, Spectrum analyzer, AC & DC Power Supplies, Active AC Load Banks, etc….
  • Able to travel internationally is a significant plus
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in MV and LV switchgear, LV Motor Control Centers, and LV Switchboard

  • The pay range for this position is $73,500 - $126,000. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications and premium geographic location.
