Brightline West is a groundbreaking high-speed rail project connecting Las Vegas, NV to Rancho Cucamonga, CA. This project involves the construction of 220 miles of new single track with passing loops in the I-15 corridor, enabling speeds up to 186 mph and reducing trip time to less than 2 ½ hours! The project strives to remove 3 million cars annually, save 400,000 tons of CO2, and create 40,000 construction and 1,000 permanent jobs.

Position Overview:

The Engineer of Record (EoR) must be a licensed and experienced Professional Engineer in California and Nevada, taking ownership for a project’s engineering design to ensure it meets all relevant and applicable international, local, state/provincial, and federal codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., building codes, railway industry standards, electrical or safety standards).

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • The EoR is responsible for the engineering design and realization of the System Engineering, Traction Power System (TPS) and Power SCADA subsystems of an integrated rail electrification solution with the required functionality.

System Engineering and TPS include the following:

  • System Engineering: Area of Responsibility includes all rail electrification specific strategies, plans, concepts, (for example Earthing & Bonding Concept, Earthing & Bonding Plan, RAMS, cable concepts, cable plans and etc.) including all studies (for example Traction Load Flow, Short Circuit and Power Quality studies) and Requirements Management and / or V&V documentation.
  • Traction Power System (TPS): Area of Responsibility includes all outdoor High Voltage (HV) Intake Substations, Traction Power Substations (TSS) [types TSS, Autotransformer Station Paralleling Point (ATS-PP) and Autotransformer Station Sectioning Point (ATS-SP)] and 12kV Auxiliary Power Substations.
  • Certify, stamp and seal the engineering design. Design may refer to: Strategies, Studies, Reports, Plans, Specifications, Drawings, Calculations, Bill of Materials (BOM) / Bill of Quantities (BOQ), Procedures, Manuals, Assessments, Standards, DCNs or ECPs, Requirements Management and / or V&V documentation.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and code alignment to all relevant and applicable international, local, state/provincial, and federal codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., building codes, railway industry standards, electrical or safety standards).
  • Undertake technical review of validation of design.
  • Be experienced in working with and seeking approval from local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ’s).
  • Maintain design integrity, Lead all aspects of quality and safety, and Provide professional expertise.

To thrive in this role, you have:

  • A minimum of 15 years of relevant subsystem experience within the United States, particularly proven 2x25kV AC traction power experience.
  • A Professional Mechanical Engineer licensed in both the States of California and Nevada. Individuals with relevant and comparable experience who meet licensing requirements are encouraged to apply.

The base salary range for this position in Las Vegas, NV is $146,400 - $198,000 and the annual incentive target is 15% of the base salary. The salary may be higher or lower depending on the budget and the candidate's experience, knowledge, skills, and qualifications.
