Position Overview:
Join our team as an Industrial Engineer and play a key role in shaping the future of our manufacturing operations. You’ll design innovative tools and workflows, lead process improvements, and collaborate with global teams to bring high-quality products to life efficiently and accurately. If you're passionate about solving complex challenges, optimizing production systems, and making a real impact on the shop floor, this is the opportunity for you!
What your day may look like:
- Designing, sourcing, and commissioning fixtures and jigs for various production areas, including welding, machining, and assembly.
- Defining essential production work steps, sequences, and durations, and establishing work scopes on a station-by-station or cell-by-cell basis.
- Developing detailed specifications for manufacturing jigs and fixtures by applying takt time analysis, capacity planning, engineering design principles, and vendor sourcing.
- Reviewing engineering drawings and 3D models using PTC Creo Parametric to understand manufacturing process requirements such as job sequencing, workflow, and takt time.
- Leading manufacturing improvements and complex process or technology changes by forming core teams, reporting to steering committees, estimating implementation efforts, and presenting ROI analyses.
- Managing technical coordination and communication with our sister facility in Graz, Austria.
- Coordinating and communicating technical information across all organizational levels, including vendors, project managers, production staff, and operations leadership.
- Creating and optimizing material flow paths and logistical requirements for each production work order, both within the MRP system and on the shop floor.
- Designing future production floor layouts to align with planned takt times and production schedules.
- Preparing standard work instructions to ensure consistency and efficiency.
- Enhancing production performance by identifying and resolving workflow issues.
- Providing critical process control guidance to production, maintenance, and quality teams to improve dimensional accuracy and overall product quality.
What you will need to be successful:
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment. Related internships are a positive.
- Strong project management capabilities, including the development of project plans, schedules, budgets, layout proposals, resource planning, and ROI calculations.
- Practical experience with lean manufacturing tools and methodologies.
- Proven hands-on approach to problem-solving and implementing corrective actions within assigned areas.
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of 3D printing technologies.
- Proficiency in designing tooling and fixtures for manufacturing, with an understanding of their impact on dimensional accuracy, quality, and takt time.
- Experience working with various types of bills of materials across engineering and production functions.
We would be impressed if you had:
- Over 5 years of experience in planning and supporting the launch of new production lines in low-speed manufacturing environments (e.g., rail, aerospace, naval, heavy equipment).
- Experience in vehicle production processes, particularly in welding or assembly (e.g., rail, aviation, naval, heavy equipment).
- Background in the rail industry, especially in light or heavy rail production.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as Pro-E, PTC Creo, SolidWorks, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with SAP or similar MRP/ERP systems.
- Certifications or coursework in Six Sigma Black Belt, Lean, OSHA Safety, Certified Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Management, EIT, or Professional Engineering License.
- Hands-on experience applying lean tools such as 5S, the 7 Wastes (Muda), root cause analysis, Yamazumi charts, Kanban, value stream mapping, ABC-XYZ analysis, and lean shop floor management.
- Experience in training others on lean principles and facilitating improvement initiatives such as Kaizen events, root cause corrective actions, and 5S workshops.
- Ability to advocate for lean practices across production, quality, and administrative functions.
- Experience with advanced factory planning methods, including high-level manufacturing strategy, technology assessment, value stream and capacity analysis, and implementation planning.
- Experience in developing automation technology roadmaps.
