SFU is embarking on a three-year digital transformation through the Integrated Faculty Management System (IFMS) program. This initiative will modernize and unify workflows across faculty and administrative domains, supporting long-term improvements in academic administration and advancing the university’s mission.
About the Role
The QA Engineer is responsible for ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of new software delivered through SFU’s Integrated Faculty Management System (IFMS) program, including the upcoming TA Management module. The role designs and executes test strategies, both manual and automated, within an Agile, cross-functional environment. Working closely with developers, product owners, and business analysts, the position does testing for new functionality, validates integrations across systems, manages defect resolution, and embeds testing in CI/CD pipelines. The QA Engineer plays a key role in safeguarding data integrity, advancing automation practices, and ensuring each release meets SFU’s standards for security, accessibility, and user experience.
The ideal candidate for this role is a collaborative and analytical problem-solver with a passion for building quality into every stage of software delivery. They bring strong technical proficiency in automated testing, integration, and CI/CD practices, alongside a deep understanding of agile development. Skilled in tools such as Selenium, JIRA, and Confluence, they balance precision with adaptability in complex, multi-system environments. With clear communication and a commitment to continuous improvement, they champion testing standards that ensure reliable, secure, and accessible systems supporting SFU’s academic and administrative excellence.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Software Engineering or a related field, with four years of experience in software quality assurance, including manual testing, integration, API, performance, security and load testing, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Proficiency in automated testing frameworks (e.g., Selenium, JUnit) and experience integrating them into CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong grasp of QA metrics, stage gate processes, SDLC and agile methodologies.
- Demonstrated experience with test case and defect‑management tools, data validation and report testing.
- Proficient experience with JIRA, Confluence and ticketing systems such as TDX, ServiceNow or JIRA Service Desk.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey QA concepts to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Additional Information
The assignment end date is February 28, 2027.
Initial assignment will be 18 months, with the opportunity for extension up to 36 months.
