About the Role
The Senior Developer, Data and AI provides advanced technical delivery leadership for SFU’s Big Data Hub (BDH) and the AI Support Hub. The role leads the execution of complex applied data and AI projects, translating approved proposals, institutional priorities, and partner commitments into technical delivery plans, and overseeing implementation across developers and student teams. The Senior Developer, Data and AI acts as the technical execution lead across BDH’s growing project portfolio, ensuring high-quality, timely, and sustainable delivery of complex initiatives. The role bridges strategic technical direction and hands-on development, enabling BDH to scale its services, support institutional AI programs, and reduce delivery risk as internal and external demand increases.
Qualifications
Master's degree in Computing Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, and six years of progressively responsible experience in applied software development, data engineering, or AI-focused roles; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading technical delivery across complex, multi-project environments.
- Strong experience designing, implementing, and overseeing complex technical solutions.
- Experience contributing to proposals, technical scoping, and solution planning.
- Advanced knowledge of data engineering, analytics, and applied AI development practices.
- Expert knowledge on the latest AI technology and tools for technical workflows.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor technical staff and lead delivery teams.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities, and adapt to an environment with rapidly shifting priorities.
- Ability to work collaboratively across institutional units and adapt in a rapidly evolving technical environment.
