About the Role

The Security and Systems Administrator is a key member of the Network and Infrastructure Engineering and Support team, a unit of SFU IT Services responsible for providing and supporting the University’s Communication Network, Data Centre, and IT Security Systems across the SFU Burnaby, Surrey, and Vancouver campuses. The Administrator supports the University's firewall and IT Security systems along with core Linux based network services including and not limited to DNS, DHCP, RADIUS, and NTP. The role designs, installs and manages network and servers at a faculty level; oversees implementation and collaboration with other information technology areas to resolve problems; provides coaching to staff and manages project teams as required. The position participates in the development and implementation of new facilities and modifications to existing facilities. The Administrator works with the engineering team and supports senior engineers in the design, implementation, and maintenance of a complex communication infrastructure focusing on proper IT security methodologies.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computing Science or another related discipline, and five years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Expertise in managing and securing enterprise-level firewalls and IT security systems, including policy design and log analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of core network infrastructure services such as DNS, DHCP, NTP, and IP address management.
  • Proven ability to design, implement, and maintain complex network and server environments with a focus on security best practices.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex and high-impact technical issues.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience working across technical teams and supporting stakeholders.
