The Faculty of Science IT team supports researchers, instructors, and administrative staff across our eight departments. Our services include desktop support, system development and administration, hardware and software setup, and consultation. We also design, develop, and maintain a range of faculty-wide, database-driven administrative systems.
We operate as a collaborative team with complementary areas of expertise to deliver comprehensive IT solutions for the Faculty. We also work closely with central IT Services to ensure seamless access to and support for enterprise resources.
About the Role
The Systems Consultant oversees the operational delivery of computing and technical services for the Faculty of Science. The incumbent oversees the provision of faculty-wide computing and technical services including hardware and software support for desktop computers, servers, workstations, and network operations. The Systems Consultant manages the development and implementation of hardware and software systems for instructional, research, and office administrative use. The incumbent provides consulting services to the faculty and its departments regarding the application of computing technology and associated instrumentation.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computing science or in a science with five years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Excellent knowledge of server operating software, microcomputers, printers, and local area networks.
- Excellent knowledge of web standards.
- Good knowledge of Relational Database Theory and practices.
- Good knowledge in designing, developing, documenting, and maintaining secure database-driven web applications.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and analytical skills.
