About the Role
The Web and Data Services Developer is responsible for the design, development, maintenance, and enhancement of the Beedie School of Business’s Teaching, Research & Collaboration System (TRACS) web presence, back‑end databases, and related web technologies. The position provides technical leadership in software development, module design, and system integration within TRACS; supports the ongoing operation, maintenance, optimization, and security of existing TRACS systems; and develops secure, database‑driven web applications. The role collaborates closely with business and IT stakeholders, coordinates with Central IT Services on enterprise and cross‑institutional initiatives, and may mentors co‑op students and junior team members, and contributes to system documentation, training, and support for staff and faculty.
The ideal candidate is an experienced web and database developer with strong expertise in designing, supporting, and maintaining secure, database‑driven web applications in a complex enterprise environment. They bring hands‑on experience with PHP, MySQL, CodeIgniter, Docker, web frameworks, and system integration, along with a solid understanding of application security and performance optimization. The candidate is collaborative and service‑oriented, with proven ability to support and enhance existing systems, coordinate effectively with Central IT Services on enterprise initiatives, mentor junior developers, and provide technical guidance, documentation, and training to business users.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computing science or equivalent relevant discipline and two years of related experience designing and developing interactive websites, developing software using PHP, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Expertise in secure, database‑driven web development (PHP, MySQL, CodeIgniter, Docker, modern web technologies).
- Proven experience maintaining and enhancing enterprise production systems.
- Strong understanding of application security and secure coding standards.
- Experience collaborating in complex enterprise environments and coordinating with other teams.
- Strong communication skills, including documentation, mentoring, and user support.
- Nice to have: Experience integrating Salesforce with enterprise or custom applications, including data synchronization, APIs, and cross‑system workflows.
